Just playin' around with various sounds (Motown, R and B--centric). I was amazed how good the (I believe) Fender Rhodes samples sound. The Motown drum beats seemed as if they were pulled directly from some songs: Motown Drummer 06, 07, 08 might have been pulled from The Temptations' "Cloud Nine.' Good to see that The Funk Brothers will live on in every Mac.

Good and fun stuff from all who've posted: bravo.

I had to chime in on the "Oh god, Garageband is going to give birth to a whole new
generation of musical hacks" discussion before posting two of my recent examples.

Look, the typewriter and word processor also gave birth to a generation of writing
hacks but it also enabled new feats of creativity that allowed those with the talent
to really do something that previously would have been difficult or not within their
grasp.

My thoughts on some of the tracks here:
Brian Mason's tunes, especially "a song that went like this" - nice playing and tone.
Lots of speed playing but not at the expense of tone. What gear are you using?
Cool vibrato too although at point's he's playing fast licks like a monkey on crack.
Sort of Santana-esque at spots (but late 70s Santana, not current).

Badtz's "Latent Posture" - nice "we're better than Tangerine Dream" atmosphere

Jfelbab - cool reggae synth feel - nice synth solo & winter solitude - nice piano work on this one.

AJ LaSaracina's "Surf" has a cool baritone guitar vibe to it.

Andy Aspaas' "Funk.band" does indeed sound like Jan Hammer. Cool.

DJ Paze's "Paze Paw" sounds vaguely like a modern remix of a Santana piece
circa "Caravanserai". Cool feel and sounds.

Josiah Pugh & Matt Davis' "Diaphanous" sounds like a piece for a documentary
about an island vacation spot and this would be the music they play as you travel there. Nice and peaceful.

Michael Gaines "Through Clouds" has a 1990s Tangerine Dream feel to it.

I like Mike Pinkterton's "IME" where he intersperses actual band tracks with
little horn samples....very different flavor. Pretty much in the pocket playing.

Mustang_jp & Attrox's collaboration has the coolest atmosphere - the organ
and guitars sound like they were compressed/limited using old optoelectronic
gear - along with the horns it gives a real blues and bbq joint feel. Great bluesy
stuff.

Paul Perrault's "Ellyn's Song" has an almost Talking Heads feel (circa "More
Songs about Buildings and Food"). Cool and relaxed.

Stevie's "My Song 3" has some nice rhythm guitar parts and a singing lead
guitar solo (another one with nice singing lead tone) which quickly goes into
the "insane" category at the coda.

Tone Def's "Inspiration" - heh heh, inspiration indeed but the backing is creepy.

2 tracks there I did with GB:

Download "In the Garage" and "Lost Scenes of Night Vistas".

In the Garage is sort of quasi-quirky prog with organ, synth bass and twin guitars.
The chorus melody is two lead guitars and the sync synth lead. This thing took about
20 minutes to put together total. The coda was just improvised.

GB is a cool app for storyboarding song ideas quickly.

Lost Scenes is a laid-back fat sounding organ, synth bass with some David Gilmour
style lead guitar with some faster asymmetric lead licks later in the track. Sort of atmospheric late night feel.

Only loops I used were just drums which I normally program myself using other
music apps (see the other track at that site). I later overdubbed a second set of
cymbal crashes, ride cymbals and accenting tom work that I played manually on
'Vistas.' The drumming on 'garage' was just the straight loop with no changes.

I'm really loving the quasi-B3 sounds in this app, I typically add overdrive and
chorus to that instrument to get the results you hear here.

I used the digital effects processor in my mixing console to process the guitar -
my G4 doesn't have enough horsepower to effect the guitars too. I should be
using my Mesa Boogie studio preamp but these were quickly put together so I
figured the fake "Matchless" preamp setting would sound somewhat convincing.

I'm a acoustic guitar player and I'll like to record my playing into GarageBand, the problem is that I have a 2002 QuickSilver G4 with no line-in jack. I know about the iMic from Griffin Technology, but is it good for recording music?

PS: I have an Ovation Celebrity acoustic/electric guitar.
