hi all - i recently put a G4 on a KVM switch and am using a PC USB keyboard with the switch. Everything works fine - until, that is, you decide to hit the eject CD button to put a CD in the machine. I know I can fiddle around with the eject CD button with a paperclip, but I'm hoping somebody knows a way to get the CD tray to open so I can put a CD in (not remove).
Is there a keyboard shortcut? Is there a menu command somewhere in system preferences that will enable me to say "open the CD drive so I can put a new CD in?"
thanks - danbrew

Why not customize the Finder toolbar and add the eject button?
(View->Customize toolbar)

Really? Holding F12 down didn't work? I'm surprised.
How about opening iTunes and clicking the "Eject" button in the bottom right?

Holding down F12 doesn't work on my G4 tower either (although it works on my Pismo).
This is why Apple shouldn't have removed the hardware eject switch.
Too bad they can't make cases like the original graphite G4 case anymore. That was maybe the best tower case Apple ever made.

Actually, I mistyped the path name for the eject menu extra:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/Eject.menu
That will place an eject icon in the menubar and should allow you to open/close an optical drive.

Good ol' double-click. It will then show up in the menu bar at the top right.

F12 works just fine on my G4, and it worked fine on my G5, too.
EDIT: being that I have the logitech MX duo, the F-buttons are originally slated to do different things -- F12 is defaulted to opening the music folder. Hit F-Lock to make the F-buttons work normally (just hit it once... it works like caps lock)

Use the traditional System Preference or Menu Extra?
