not unusual, but I like it because I'm immature and it sounds rude even though it's not:

penultimate -- second from the last.

Or did you ever notice, add an "s" to the end of any noun and it becomes breasts? Nice cans, nice knobs, nice planters?

It also requires a preceding adjective.

Start pronouncing the "b" in "obvious". No one will try correct you, being unsure which way is correct.

Sciatica.

Would be a great name for a metal band, if it didn't mean back pain.

What's the word for neck pain from too much head-banging?

I've never heard it without the b.

"Jagwire" and "nucular" bug the crap outta me.

While looking through Dictionary.app (under "turret") I saw a figure for the first time. I had no idea it had any.

'Round where I am, the 'b' in obviously IS pronounced. I always pronounce it. The 'b' is the end of the first syllable, by the way, and that makes it easier to get around the 'b'-'v' transition.

Weirdness. I don't know why you would bring up your abnormal pronunciation then. It would be like Steve saying Jag-wire and be at a loss why everyone else pronounced it Jag-u-war. Or George W. be at a loss why everyone else is pronouncing nuclear new-qu-lar.

I thought for the longest time that "nucular" was a synonym for "nuclear."

No, Nuke-yoo-lar is just plain wrong. I also say oBviously. I Learned to speak in Calif, then adapted a bit to Texas.

I should point out that I grew up in Southeastern Michigan, and didn't move to Texas until I was an adult. I have NO accent-people have theorized that I'm from all over the place, but never Michigan and certainly not Texas. My wife, who grew up in East Texas (way! East Texas-Port Arthur to be exact) has no accent either-just generic "American."

One of my professors is from Liverpool, and her pronunciation is kind of interesting. Mostly the differences are in certain vowels, "pro-cess" as opposed to "prah-cess", and that sort of thing.

Propinquity is a good word. I don't get much chance to use it though.

Oh, and I'm one of those people who pronounces the first 'r' in February too. Drives people crazy-which is one reason I do it.
