Hi,
I've a backup of the original panther cds 1 & 2. I previously installed Panther no problem from these cds. However when I try re installing from them now the powerbook boots from the cd shows the apple logo and stops. There is also some discoloration to the left of the logo on the grey background. The cds are fine , I've verified this. I'm running 10.3.6, is it possible that a firmware update is preventing me booting these old cds ? Do I have to boot from the Powerbook 1.5 original cds that came with the machine ?

Thanks in advance .

Probably - IIRC, I believe that the lowest version of Panther that the new PowerBooks can run is 10.3.4. The original Panther disks would of course be 10.3.0. I had the same problem with my external hard drive and my PowerBook. I used the Panther installer CDs to install Panther on the external only to discover I couldn't boot from it on my PowerBook. I had to use the PB installer CDs to install the PowerBook specific version of Panther onto the external to get it to work.

Thanks for the info, I will try tonight with the original powerbook cds. I would have thought that the panther retail cds would boot on any machine.
