I recently restored my system from Time Machine and now I'm trying to do my daily back ups but first it has to do a full back up. Which is fine so I left it on and went away and when I came back an hour later it'd only done 600kb! I sat and watched it and it's doing them one kb at a time. So I stopped it and started it again and in 20 minutes it's done only 50kb. What's going on?

Could it be because my username has changed? Should I delete all the old back ups and reformat the disc?

I'm doing my first backup, and it seems to be very slow to me, also. Not as slow as yours, however. It's doing a mb about every 30 seconds on a USB-2 HDD. It does seem to be speeding up as it goes along, however. How quickly should data be transferred?

After first backup...........

two months down the line....

Occasionally I've found Time Machine to be really slow.

I think it's because I use two "Time Machines" external HDD's.

Main one is 500gb, used all the time.

Other is 160gb, used weekly.

After setting pref for that particular TM, it works fine...however sometimes really slow with main TM, hangs around 120k of 14gb+.

Solution I found is to just restart iMac, worked every time so far in enabling normal speed transfers.

Now chuntering along in the gb's

iMac Intel Core i5, 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB 21.5" Monitor 10.8.3.
iMac 17" 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo w 3gb memory (White one) 10.6.8.
Internal 500gb / 8x external HDD's 250GB - 3TB (4x Time Machine)
