An Apple TIL notes that AppleShare must be enabled to mount your iDisk on your desktop and that iTools's, which uses AppleTalk Filing Protocol (AFP) on TCP port 548, cannot be configured to work through a HTTP or SOCKS proxy.

I need to learn more about proxies. I was sure that my brother-in-law's college internet connection had a SOCKS proxy, but now I'm not sure. Here's why... He couldn't get GameRanger to work until the latest release that supports SOCKS firewalls. However, he has always been able to use iTools and iDisk with no problems. What's up with that?
