Can someone explain to me why every other PowerBook/iBook's memory specs (as listed from vendors) labels the speed of memory at 2-2-2, while TiBook memory doesn't appear to be rated this way, and in the case of one vendor (transintl.com) is rated at 3-3-3?
I'm specifically referring to:
RamJet: <a href="http://www.ramjet.com/mac_laptops.asp" target="_blank">http://www.ramjet.com/mac_laptops.asp</a>
OWC: <a href="http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Page.cfm?Parent=405&Title=PowerBook%20G4%2 0Titanium%20&Template=" target="_blank">http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Page.cfm?Parent=405&Title=PowerBook%20G4%2 0Titanium%20&Template=</a>
TrandIntl: <a href="http://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=196" target="_blank">http://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=196</a>
Does this make sense? I guess I'm wondering because I purchased two of these things from TransIntl. I noticed the slower speed, but figured that's just the way it is (you have to use the pulldown menu to see the speed code. if you add it to your shopping cart a more in depth specification comes up). Am I correct to assume that this is normal? Is the speed actually slower?

You can have PC100 2-2-2, or PC133 3-3-3, but not PC133 2-2-2. Just doesn't seem that anyone is making it, or if so it is prohibitively expensive. All the powerbooks referred to besides the Ti use PC100. The speed difference between 222 and 333 is minimal and certainly not noticeable in daily use.

The speed difference between 3-2-2 and 2-2-2 SDRAM is negligible. Lowering the CAS latency on my desktop from CAS3 to CAS2 got me SETI@Home times of three hours versus three hours and fifteen minutes. It's no big deal.
By the way, there is PC-133 SDRAM with a CAS2 latency rating available from Crucial. I'm staring at a 256-megabyte module of it right now.

so are you saying PC133 CL3 memory is faster than PC100 CL2?

PC-133 and PC-100 SDRAM are completely different. PC-133 SDRAM functions at 133 megahertz, whereas PC-100 SDRAM functions at 100 megahertz. CAS latency is a completely different story.
I wouldn't worry about what kind of RAM I had so long as it worked reliably.

Just get Crucial RAM. I know it works. It's not that expensive. <img border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" title="" src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" />
The link you sent me is bad.

here is a link for that kingston RAM. No other info; you'd have to email them to find out. I doubt it is CL2.

other way 'round. CL2 is faster. (at the same mhz)

yeah I was referring more to the 512MB modules, which don't seem to be too common.
> I wouldn't worry about what kind of RAM I had so long as it worked reliably.
like the man says, just buy something. Any vendor that lists a specific module for your 'book will likely work just fine.

so do 512MB 2-2-2 modules exist? Who sells them, and how much do they cost?

Crucial has CAS2, 512-megabyte modules that aren't too shabby. Heck, I'd prefer a gigabyte of CAS3 RAM to 512 megabytes of CAS2 RAM.
