Of course, if buying a new one, you're better off ordering a 14.1" iBook with the 4x SuperDrive BTO option.

Why not on the 12 again and again and again ....
the 12" always have less... I dont get it... !?!

If the 12" ibook had a superdrive it would cut sales on the 12" powerbook with superdrive.

But you know as me that it is NEEDED in those super-portable machines!... And you also know that the 14" are for "sight defficient" people! :oP

do superdrives function just like the cd-r/dvd combo drive just with the option to burn dvds as well?

since the superdrive upgrades i would imagine apple is using a diffrent brand of dvd burner, hopefully a great deal cheaper than the one in the article.

just looking at the pictures in the dissassembly article.. make me cringe... no way in hell i could ever open this thing up.

MCE offers the upgrade as well. Not bad price wise and they will upgrade the hard drive while the thing is dissembled. Though at that price point you woul d be close to getting a 12" PB

One catch with MCE's upgrade is that they don't guarantee iDVD compatibility.

somewhat but I am told they have slower speeds both burn and read.
