Hi everyone,

Look I'm needing some help getting windowmaker working under OS X.1. I have a working Xfree and XDarwin installation, which I have been using for a little while. I grabbed the wmaker pkg from macosx.forked.net and installed it. it said to run /bin/wmaker.inst which I did.

Now when I try to start it I get the error

<font face = "courier">

XFree86 Version 4.1.99.1 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6510)
Release Date: xx September 2001
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
Operating System: Darwin
Using keymapping provided in /System/Library/Keyboards/USA.keymapping.

Display mode: Rootless Quartz

Screen 0 placed at X11 coordinate (0,0).
cat: /Users/benw/.Xauthority: No such file or directory
dyld: wmaker can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libdl.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

waiting for X server to shut down Quitting XDarwin...
.....2001-10-16 22:00:50.615 XDarwin[820] X server thread never quit.

</font>

Can somebody please explain to me what is going on? I could never get this to work under 10.0 either

edit : I've also tried searching my hard drive with sherlock for the file libdl.dylib and it's nowhere to be found. Was the installer supposed to install this but didn't ?

I'd recommend against using a package from macosx.forked.net in this case. Build WindowMaker yourself, or use fink ( fink.sourceforge.net ). Fink will install all the missing parts for you, and, as it's built on your machine, you'll know any problems are specifically related to your setup, rather than something in macosx.forked.net's pkg.

obviously, the wmaker binary was built w/
the dl library (needed on some OSX things).

You can get it from: http://macosx.forked.net/ports/libdl.pkg.tgz
