Just noticed that. Funny.

That is one character I could not stand in TNG. Wesley was so annoying.

I hated him also but to be fair it was mostly the writers fault.

He wasn't a stelar actor, but as has been said it's more the writer's fault. They tried to make him super boy... what is it with Star Trek and annoying kids... I hated Naomi Wildman on voayger... that said DS9 had an OK kid with Jake and Nog, didn't like either of em to much but at least Nog was humorous at times.

The reason Jake was cool is because they didn't have a 14 year old boy save the ship in the last 10 minutes when 1000 trained professionals didn't have a clue.

Wrong answer! OK, it's technically correct, but here's the preferred answer:

Q: Who is Wil Wheaton?
A: Gordie Lachance from Stand by Me

Being a main character in an excellent movie like that trumps any work on Star Trek.

Could anyone try telling me what is excellent about this movie? Saw it and just thought: What the hell is all the fuss about? This movie is so incredibly boring! Nothing happens, NOTHING at all. Incredible..

Huh? It's just Star Trek. I could compile a list with pretty much all starship classes form the Federation, the Klingons, the Cardassians, the Ferengi, the Romulans, the Dominion etc. off the top of my head. Nothing pretty here.

Yeah, but can you tell me who that Voyager captain's chic's husband's name was?

Too many possessive constructions in that sentence of mine, though. lol

It was great for the time when it came out as every boy at their age has gone on some sort of adventure.

I liked Stand By Me. I suppose as 12 year old I kinda related to it. Plus it had a killer cast with some of the best acting byt 12 year old kids you ever going to see. As someone who was suckered into doing child acting briefly I can tell you that was one sweet role for a kid, and a great job by all involved. The TNG role sucked, but it was work. For an actor, work is work.

I'm gathering that Wil's just there to promote his book. Nothing wrong with that from his standpoint but why the hell the folk at the expo want him there, other than a cheapish stunt is beyond me.

But if this were the late Douglas Adams hawking a book would you all have been upset?

I saw Wil speak at a convention before, he is an egotistical showoff. He was drinking a root beer and someone ask him if they could have the can when he was done with it, he offered to sell it to them. I thought I hated his character but I don't like him as a person after watching him for 2 hours.

He must have been kidding though, I mean, how many people come up and ask you for your can? Probably just took the rip out of the person.

No it was some chick that thought he was hot ****. Either way that was the least of it, it was just forcing this cool image that looked really pathetic.

He was good in stand by me as he was unknown at the time.

I'm not entirely convinced you aren't joking, but I'll try...

Personally, I think Stand by Me captures the essence of childhood. You may think nothing happened, but, as far as those kids were concerned, that adventure changed their whole lives. On some level, they managed to grow up, grow together, and grow apart through the course of the movie -- without any of it seeming forced or unnatural.

I find it funny that you've never seen it. I'll go ahead and assume you're rather young (sorry if that's incorrect). I think you may have gone into it with your expectations too high. When it first debuted, there was basically no hype at all; it managed to take the public by surprise and succeed through old-fashioned word of mouth. It's not the best movie ever made; it's just a well-acted, well-written film. In particular, River Phoenix gave about as good a performance as you're ever going to see from a child actor.

On a final note, it's more than a little amusing that Jerry O'Connell somehow became the most famous of the four boys.

I went to school with him during the Stand By Me period. It's weird to see him on tv all buff and famous and whatnot. I mean after the movie came out, he was still all chubby and what have you. But he got the girls had plenty of cash to throw around, did a Coca Cola commercial and so on. The buffitude kinda came as a suprise, since I kinda thought he'd always be chubby. he could've had a fine career as a chubby character actor.

Good for him, though. But I think River Phoenix was the most talented of the bunch. Sad.

And to make it worse, my girlfriend went to school with Jennifer Anniston.

Ain't life grand!

Captain Kathryn Janeway was, at the time of the Voyager series, not married. She was engaged, but never married (disappeared into the delta quadrant before the wedding). Her fiancee's name was Mark.

I couldn't have told you Janeway's Fiancee's name though I could have told ya she wasn't married. IMO SHE was far more annoying than Wesley least he didn't ruin a concept that could have been half decent... dang I hated her. 7 of 9 was just as bad, "Watch me arch my back to solve the problem, I'll distract the species 8472 with my enormous breasts while you phaser em!"

As to Jake and Nog, that's what I liked about em. Actually the last few seasons of DS9 were probably some of the best Trek stuff out there... probably cause they whole sale ripped off B5 , I'm surprised the Federation and the Founders didn't suddenly realize that they were having a war of ideology and that nobody would listen to em and decide to fly off beyond the rim

I heard about it a long time ago, but I never really got into it. What was it?

As for why Wheaton is going to appear, it's probably something about the blog server in Tiger (Server only, last I heard; not Client). It's said that they're doing something with Blojsom, the Java port of Blosxom. That's not the blog software he uses, but hey; he's a blogger.
