While doing some research on building an ADB power switch i came across apple's secret time-travel technology. http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n2170

Note: Apple computers introduced after August, 1988 do not use the Apple Desktop Bus. They use the Universal Serial Bus (USB) to connect input devices.

Its been since fixed since i told them about it

BTW making a adb power switch seems to be easy for powering on. anyone know what would be involved to get it to also power off?

To power it off it would have to simulate the return key too. First hit the power key which gives you the Wanna-shutdown dialog box and then the return.

Try the control panel "Okey Dokey Pro" by Dan Walkowski. You can set it to auto-return the default button in a dialogue box after a chosen duration. Sorry, don't know offhand where to find it but maybe shareware.com?

well getting a mac to power on via adb is just a functino of shorting one pin to the gound for a certina period of time until (vcc) comes up. however i dont think doing the same thign when teh bus has power is a good idea. is there some other way that a real adb KB sends a signal for power off withthe power key?

Nope. That is how ADB powers up, and senses the key to shut down. That pin is designed to be the power pin and is meant to be shorted to the ground.
