Dahle and the victim, whose name was not released, were longtime acquaintances and hung out with a punk clique, he said.

I've always been confused by this. Does the method of scalping that took place remove the skin and the hair, leaving the skull bone exposed OR does it remove part of the skull bone, exposing the brain?

Either way,

Yeah, I never took anatomy. I'd imagine a drill would have to be used to cut through the skull. Everything I know I learned from Kill Bill.

Either way,

The traditional way is to make a cut across the scalp and a bit on each side then literally rip it all off. I have the feeling in this case the scalp was just sliced off like a skinner would.

it's quite easy to cut skin and connective tissue, and quite difficult to cut the skull (the bone). i doubt if the bone was any more than scratched. if doctors couldn't reattache the scalp that was recovered i wonder what they did instead.

"According to their creed, if you disrespect women you are not allowed to wear a mohawk."

Perhaps this would have been a more appropriate form of retaliation?

Heh...it's even cordless for that added convencience needed when striking down those sporting undeserving mohawks...

Scalping means they removed the skin and the hair. All that's left (possibly) is a thin membrane around the skull. You can survive a scalping because there's a viscous fluid that's generated just underneath the skin (pus) and it'll harden and form a crust over the scalped area.

She has a couple of options. She can ware a protective artificial "skin" over her head (like some burn victims), they can take skin from other places and graft it onto her head, or, if she's lucky and they're not super Christians (which I doubt considering who she was hanging out with) they can actually grow new skin in a dish and graft that on.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Very sad. My curiosity has me wishing that I could see a picture of the results.

Nah. He is (or was) a nurse after all. Interest in how this particularly unusual injury heals is perfectly natural.
