I've been using
Navicat to edit my remote MySQL databases using a very nifty spreadsheet-like interface. It's pretty nice. Unfortunately, even though Navicat is a $99 program, it lacks some of the features of the open-source/free phpMyAdmin.
For example, in pMA you can populate fields containing a foreign key with the contents of a different field in the foreign table instead of, say, its id number — very convenient. This is quite useful because if, for example, we have one table named Players and another named Teams and you're creating an entry for Larry Bird and want to fill in the field for Team, it's much nicer to select "Boston Celtics" from a pick list (which also offers you Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, etc.) rather than having to look up the the id number for the Celtics in the Teams table and choose/enter that number.
So it looks like even though I have bought Navicat, I'll still need to use pMA from time to time.
