Storage company QNAP this week announced the release of the quad-core two-bay TS-251+ and four-bay TS-451+ network attached storage (NAS) devices. The new models are aimed at providing high performance and a scalable storage solution for for small offices and workgroup users at an affordable price.
The new solutions both feature virtualization readiness, containerized applications, advanced backup solutions, real-time and offline video transcoding, QvPC Technology, and HDMI video playback, as well as an included remote control.
The TS-251+ and the TS-451+ pack 22nm 64-bit quad-core Intel Celeron 2.0GHz processors with between 2GB and 8GB of energy-efficient DDR3L RAM, depending on model. Both also sport dual Gigabit LAN ports capable of delivering up to 225MB/s throughput, with transfer speeds of up to 205MB/s and AES 265-bit volume and folder encryption.
The devices run QTS 4.2, which allows users to run multiple applications on Windows, Linux, Unix, and Android-based virtual machines on the NAS thanks to the Virtualization Station. The TS-451+ and TS-251+ are operable as PCs thanks to QvPC Technology -- users need only plug in a keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display, and they can directly access stored data, run virtual machines, browse the web, and view 1080p videos directly off the NAS itself.
The TS-251+ and TS-451+ are available now. Further information on the systems can be obtained from
