Point isn't to enable Xbox exclusives, point is to make sure not everyone goes PS4 exclusive. Which I think they have prevented.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

On the other side of the modding debate we have Rockstar, who is apparently banning people for playing single player GTA V with mods. Fantastic.

I was waiting for this. Any articles? My only guess for justification is it might affect online, but I suspect they also have some way of verifying the game is unaltered when going online.

I read that there is no "easy" way for Rockstar to ensure that the mods aren't affecting multiplayer play, so they just decided to ban the mods altogether.

Oh, I got a heads up that my MS points are expiring in a month, but what the hell do I do with them? I still have a $20 point card I need to sell or something.

So the logic is that

IF (detect mod) {
send signal to server to ban
}

is much easier than

IF ((detect mod) AND (playing online)){
send signal to server to ban
}

And why are they contacting the server for a single player game to begin with? Even if they do the mod check at startup (which is what it seems like), just remove the ability to go online if mods are detected. No, this screams "We don't care about mods", which is an extremely stupid position to take in 2015.

Especially considering the momentum the PC version has built up in such a short time.

I'm guessing this gets fixed quickly.

Yeah, they'll be hauling ass to correct this. I saw the scaffold going up outside just this morning and it won't take long to find enough rope.

Uplay alone is a reason not to buy Ubisoft games. Absolutely horrible crashing garbage. One hint though: In the Uplay settings, disable all the in-game integration features. Improves things immensely. It will turn them on again randomly when it updates, but it is quick enough to turn them off again.

I watched the Supper Bunnyhop video before the takedown. Lots of smh-worthy claims.

Someone on the NeoGAF thread wondered if Konami appearances would be greeted by boos at E3. I wish.

For those wanting to see the Super Bunnyhop video in question, here's a link to a re-post of the video on YouTube. I'm sure this one will get taken down as well.

It's Japanese console gaming in general. Their culture just has no interest in it any more.

I love JRPGs and many of the quirky Japenese titles. Most gamers have a soft spot in their hearts for Nintendo's IPs, too...

But Japanese companies generally suck. It's as if they're living on an island...
Get it?

Haven't finished Witcher 2 yet.

Honestly, I picked up ALL the DLC for EU4 and CK2 in a sale the other day, and I'm still in the middle of PoE, so no, won't happen for a while.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the X1 out-sold the PS4 last month, for no apparent reason. The estimated gap was only 13k, which some commented is probably within NPDs margin of error, but having digested this, it might be time for the PS4 to get out that price drop.

There is some bullshit brewing about Witcher 3. For those with good memories, Tomb Raider included AMD's "TressFX" hair effect package, which raised some eyebrows, so of course nVidia had to counter. Their new tech is called HairWorks, and comes with the lovely little provisio that developers can use it freely, but are not allowed to optimized it for AMD cards - something that a CDPR (makers of Witcher) developer happened to mention recently.

Long story short, HairWorks absolutely kills performance on anything not latest generation nVidia cards. On new nVidia cards (Maxwell), it cuts Witcher 3 frame rates by 30%, which is pretty terrible, but on AMD cards or older nVidia cards (and "older" here is Kepler, ie Geforce 600/700 series and the original Titan, so not very old) it absolutely destroys performance. Apparently nVidia has focused on the fact that Maxwell has increased the tesselation performance and made HairWorks calculate insane number of polygons. That this happens to kill performance on other cards is apparently just a coincidence.

And this is where the conspiracy theories start to fly. HairWorks was added at the last minute, but the developer refused to also add TressFX. They also coded up their own hair engine for the consoles - which, remember, use AMD GPUs - but refuse to enable it on PCs. Even more damning, it is possible in the AMD driver overrides to install a specific setting (set a tesselation ceiling) which returns performance to where it should be with no visible effects, but CDPR apparently can't add a setting like that to the game because it would mean optimizing for AMD cards.

I hope CDPR got paid well.

NVidia are absolute bastards about things like this. They will actively degrade performance on competitor's hardware to make their own look good. This one was quite clever - they can say that AMD did the same thing first (BS, because TressFX is open source and can be optimized freely, while this is a binary blob), they can argue that it really looks better with this heavy tesselation (polygons smaller than a pixel, how do you plan to render that? Have the GPU use enough energy so it distorts spacetime to borrow pixels from the future?) and all the while hide behind the fact that the feature is optional and can be disabled.

AMD 390X setups aren't greatly affected (essentially so much brute force power that it doesn't matter). I mean, they are, but 70fps looks as good as 120fps to me.

You mean that the not-yet-released extreme performance monster card gets a playable framerate? Yes, I can imagine...

(BTW, are you sure that the name is 390X? Because now it looks like AMD will do a refresh of Hawaii and call that the 390 series, and Fiji will be a Titan-like supercard).

NFS is getting a reboot, which is basically it's second reboot (the first being when Criterion took over) and not counting numerous reinventions.

I was thinking, in this particular instance, reboot pretty much means "disassociate the title from recent shit, but continue to remember anything you liked about the series." i.e., nothing more than marketing.
