I want to play some wmv files but that means i need to make vlc my default player.Does anyone know how to do this easily?I dont get it.Is it easy later switching between quicktime and vlc? The files that i have opened with vlc open up all over the place and i am stuck with lots of wmv icons on my dekstop.I currently have something playing with only audio but no video.

I also get alot of there errors

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Also can i play these videos within safari like quicktime does?

Any idea because as usual i have no clue

cheers

VLC isn't so hot an WMV in my experience. Try Flip4Mac.

Not that I'm aware. Both VLC and Mplayer support WMV, but neither seems very consistent with picture quality for WMV.

I'd keep VLC around. It's good for avi, mpeg, and older WMV.

AVI is kind of a generic extension. Usually it means DIVX, which VLC plays fine. I've seen a couple that were some weird Windows Media format that VLC can't play at all. But yeah, VLC is what I use for all my video playing except QuickTime movies and WMVs.

Actually, i have found the latest (last one?) WMV player to be quite good for video playback. Yeah, i know, it´s micro**** and there´s pretty much no features but it DOES play a couple of files were no other freeware apps go. VLC, WMP and QT will pretty much cover the ground IMHO.

I use it even to play DVDs since it uses less processing power than DVD player. Helpful when on battery.

VLC can also get around DVD region locks (if the drive doesn't enforce them).
