Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease give us AI back. Everyone will come flocking to use the AI message boards and you can make barrels of money with an ad on every page... you don't even need to give us new articles, just the messag eboard and that's all we ask! and you can even use the old hardware that used to run the Macnn board... it's a little slower but it'll work just fine. Please.

Guys: I just want to let you know that if AI comes back it will be starting fresh, i.e. AFAIK all the threads and accounts are gone.

Just incase anyone had their hopes up on that

P.S. I could be wrong but i can confirm all the information on the AI box is lost. If there is a backup I'm not aware of it.

Ok..... no AI, or AI just without our old accounts?

.....

Yeah, I'll go with AI and have everybody that is still interested re-register.

Post counts don't matter THAT much do they?

I'm kinda looking forward to the prospect of all the wanna-bes
scrambling to be the first to register as "Dorsal" and "Kormac76" when the AI boards re-open...

Seriously, it would be a nice courtesy if anyone registered on MacNN,
could have that same name on AI. Most of us registered on MacNN with our AI names.

If everyone just re registered with the names they always used on AI I think everyone would be happy, besides how else could we recognize each other other than each others sharp wit and bad spelling

Guys, the reason all the accounts and threads would be gone is the hosting company who had AI literally vanished. Many other websites were lost and there is really nothing anyone can do .

I do know of at least one member file backup but i imagine is is grossly outdated as it's at least a year old. However, it does have about 1300 member files. Anyhow, you'll have to wait to see if the decision is made to bring back ai before we can really talk about any of this .

I agree. On AI I was JRC, you might remember me, I always bragged about having the oldest registration of Nov 98.

I feel that the community is gone and really, really enjoyed it while it was there.

It's absolutely ridiculous that backups were NOT kept somewhere off the host's servers by AI itself.

Since I might have posted the most "Bring Back AI NOW!!! You Cheap Bastards" threads and/or comments in the last half year, I guess I'll chime in with a ::Bump::

In the time since the traffic of the two sites seems to have melded. I think It'd make sense to host AI on the old MacNN server and move a lot of the rumor traffic back over to AI. At this point a lot of users will probably stick to both sites-- MacNN for troubleshooting, and how to info, and AI for rumors, flaming, and slightly more avant gaarde debate.

The cast of Ai characters was really alot of fun, but I doubt it can come back with the same kind of funky verve.

So come on,

FIX AI YOU CHEAP LAZY BASTARDS!!!

I want free boards, but hey, I'm willing to contribute my share of bile.

well i think one of you out there with a web hosting company (not me tho) should offer bandwith (not my bandwidth) and server space (not my server). maybe the former AI gods have some stats on bandwidth usage that might help a web hosting company (not mine) make such a decision.

Nah. I talked to him today and he immediately said that we were going to bring AI Forums back, but after we have fully completed our transition and certain major updates to our news pages that are going to take place in the next week or two.

My estimate is 1-2 months for AI Redux. BTW, there are ways to make sure people don't screw around with names, but there is really no need to go into all the gratuitous geeky details of UBB.

Does this mean we will see the return of games.macnn.com, reviews.macnn.com, or www.appleinsider.com to actual regular news cycles? Or does this mean a major site redesign?

I truly doubt the busy people at Macnn have enough time to handle two mac rumors sites. I don't have any Apple connections, so I can;t honestly offer my services as Apple rumormonger. I would if I could.

Games? Maybe one day. No current plans.

Reviews? Haven't gotten to that yet, but something will change there.

AI? No decision on the main page, but the forums will be back soon and in full speed.

Major site redesign? Yep. But don't worry, it won't be like NFN We will be asking for full input from the forums readers on the new look.

BTW, if there are anymore questions regarding the return on AI, read gzl's posts.

Yeah, and they literally stole it, along with all the data. Unfortunately I was *GOING* to make a backup but the [expletive deleted] woman who ran the former Reprahduce *SAID* she was giving me SSH access to the Cube to do exactly that, but never actually did it. Hence no backup.

games.macnn.com is discontinued permanently. reviews.macnn.com will probably return in some capacity but we are currently working on a number of other higher-priority projects right now. AppleInsider will return fairly soon with a new design and new forums for both the main news site (where rumors postings will go) as well as the forums. Don't keep hounding us about it -- we are working on it, and it will be up as soon as we can do it, which will likely be sometime this month.

It *is* coming back, and fairly soon, so please stop yelling at me in huge threads now. I did all I could do before -- looks like it paid off.

At my site http://www.macosinfo.net we purchased the UltimateBB and we don't really have a use for it. The site should be able to handle the AI forum traffic load, and I would be willing to set up the forums like the way they were with AppleInsider. Does MacNN plan to bring the AI forums back? Would anyone be interested for me setting mine up like AI's? I think the forum software is even the same as AI had.
