Running mail on osx 10.12.6 Sierra, and lately have noticed that sometimes my From email address defaults to @me.com instead of @mac.com. I check in mail preferences >icloud, and sure enough it's set to @me, although I have never actually used that address they gave us, nor the icloud one. I have reset it to .mac several times but have noticed when sending mail it will suddenly start using the .me account again... check preferences and sure enough, @me is selected again. Now I have email bouncing back because people don't have @me.com in their address books, accounts, etc.

WTF.

.Mac Forever!

Have you looked in Sys Prefs > Internet Accounts to see if a .Me account is listed?

How about You > Library > Mail > V2? Any .Me instances there?

In Mojave, the default outgoing account is set in "Composing" in Mail's preferences. One setting on the drop-down is "Automatically select best account." Mine is set that way, and it seems to do well in picking the right account - apparently based on the "to" address I enter.

I'm on Sierra, but have that same dropdown option. It's set to my .mac email.

It's possible some people send emails to @me... maybe that triggers a swap?
