I just got a used clamshell iBook w/OS X to tide me over until my other iBook is fixed. Problem is that I don't have the Admin password to install applications.
In the Accounts menu, the password does appear as 7 dots, but I don't know what the actual password is. The padlock at the bottom is locked, so it appears that I can't add an account.
Is there a way to retrieve this password, since it is entered in the Password box as well as the Verify box? I can't copy & paste these characters, obviously.
I realize that there's a way to reset the password using my OS X system cd, but that's at my office, and I'm trying to avoid making that trip today if I can. Is there another way to change the password (any changes bring up a new box requiring that I enter the password).
Thanks,
J.P.

I think I read once that if you boot fom the OS CD you may be able to fix this. Can anyone else confirm?
