iBook fan going a lot recently

So today i noticed my iBook fan is on... It never turns on unless I'm webcamming or playing video games for a while. I can only attribute it to the security update as that's the only thing I think it could be. I have no new apps open than I usually do. I've even quite some for a while. The fan does go off, but not much. The computer is on a flat desk just like it has been for the last 5 months. The temperature in here is below 70F. I've only noticed it today though, and the security update was what, 2 days ago? Something is off.
So, anyone else experiencing this? I'm going to restart just to see if that makes anything better.

did the restart change anything??
maybe repair permissions?
have you been using the laptop in the same ways...ie on a desk, and not cloth?

I remember having that very same problem after the Mac OS X 10.3.6 (or 10.3.7, not sure which one) update. As far as I remember, resetting the PMU fixed it.
