Wasnt sure if this should go in this forum, or the mac mods forum, but I figured this forum gets more lookins from people, so here goes..

I just bought a Pioneer DVR 107 DVD burner (Bare drive) which I was going to put into my eMac (Originally a 1ghz combo model). I'm sure that will work just fine, given that Apple fit these exact same drives into many new macs as standard..
HOWEVER! it dawned on me that it might be even more useful if i could fit this drive into my old external firewire CD burner case (Que QPS 8X). I'm sure it will physically fit into the case, and the connections will go together ok, but will i have issues with drivers or anything like that? I really got no idea, so if someone could enlighten me a bit here, it would be much appreciated

I also have a QPS firewire 8x, and I tried this exact same thing with a Pioneer 105. It seemed to be just a simple matter of plugging in the wires, but it didn't work. I'm not enough of a tech-head to figure out why.

Yeah, I took the plunge and tried it anyway. No show here either So, apart came the eMac (again!) and the drive seems to work in there just fine so far.
Im guessing the QPS Que case contains driver software/firmware for the specific drive fitted inside it (Mine has a plextor in it). So perhaps that explains why it wont work with other drives placed inside the same case. Shame!

Yeah, it may be that the firmware is out of date on the bridge that is in your case. I've had great luck with the LaCie cases using the exact same Pioneer 107D drive. I snagged a LaCie d2 case with a Liteon CDRW burner from eBay recently for about $49. Swapping out the old drive for the 107D was a snap. Now I have a nice looking drive that generates no fan noise. Good luck.
