I'm working on an app that has a view that displays differently depending on the user's preferences.

I want to controller object to read the preferences, set the correspoinding variables in the view, and have it display, but I'm not sure when to have it do so. Should I have it done in the awakeFromNib, or in some other method, like the init method?

The view objects haven't been deserialized yet when init is called, so you have to do it in awakeFromNib.
