Hello all. It's been a while since my last post, but thought I might try this forum again.
We currently have a setup at work where we use a Windows 2003 based file server for all our users, who are mostly using Windows XP workstations, along with some Linux-workstations. Both of these groups have no problems accessing the network shares we have on our file server.
The Mac-users on the other hand (using latest version of Tiger) can access some of the shares, but not their personal folders. This is probably caused by the fact that on our server, the folders reside as follows:
A folder containing all the users, not browseable by the users, because we do not want people to see all the user names/logons. Within this folder are the folders containing user names, where the users have their personal files within their own folder with full access. This is a setup we do not wish/will not change.
What happens if we try to mount a user share in OS X is that we get a mounted disk showing the top level of our file server, where we can see all the available shares (i.e. Common, Users etc), and not the correct folder residing in \Users\username
As previously mentioned, folders not residing in a parent folder that is not browseable, is working fine.
If anyone has suggestions to a solution from the client side, that would be greatly appreciated. Also note that when I tried one of the available third-party solutions for mounting SMB-shares (I do think it was Dave), the mounting of the file share worked just fine. However it would be really great if it was possible to mount file shares without having to purchase a third party solution.
