I'm assuming it stands for "Intervideo 5.0"

Anyone know where I can get this? I seem to have a ton of videos that need it, and neither VLC nor Quicktime will play them under Mac OS X (they do fine under windows which is whack.)

It's Indeo Video 5, and to my knowledge there is no Mac OS X codec. Sorry.

The only way to do it (unless you have an older Mac capable of booting OS 9) is to use Windows on your Mactel and then attempt to convert it to some other codec that doesn't suck.

You would just need to run OS 9, not boot from it (for ex my G5 can't boot into OS 9, but it can still run "classic").

You could try Sheepshaver to emulate OS 9 on an Intel mac...

Also, Intel sold the codecs before OS X even existed, so don't blame them, blame the folks who bought them.

Everything I have read says that it's necessary to boot into OS 9, not just run Classic. I guess I could try to install and use the codec on my G5.

I've used Classic to re-encode Indeo files. Just have to launch the classic version of QT Pro

You can view Indeo 5 clips from inside Classic. Install the codec in the OS 9 Extensions folder and open the .avi using Classic Quicktime. Works fine, I do it every now and then.

For Intel Macs, I don't think you have any options but to view it using Windows. Intel and Apple may be friends, but Intel doesn't own Indeo anymore, they sold it years ago.
