Friend of mine just got a MBP 15", and text display is shearing when scrolling in Safari and Apple mail, and shadows are not antialiased properly around window edges. Anybody else ever experience this?

He took it to an Apple genius and was told there was nothing wrong. I've used every single version of OS X since public beta on desktops, and laptops, and can say with complete certainty that his machine is not rendering edge shadows properly. It looks horrible. It's like the video card forgot how to do to smoothing or software isn't asking it to.

I've tried switching from millions to thousands of colors to try to reset the display, and it didn't help.
I've tried booting into Safe Boot mode and the problem persisted.
When I take a screen capture, the problem is displayed in the capture.
Color calibration was done, and pre/post shows no improvement on the shadows.

I'm going to have him try an external display to see if the problem shows up on a monitor.
I'm going to have him use the hardware test CD.
I'm going to have him boot off an external HD with a retail copy of Leopard installed on it to see if it persists.

If it keeps showing up, I think we can say it's a hardware glitch.
