I like to upgrade my 17" PB, 1,5Gc and at this moment 512Mb.
Is there a discription to replace the 512Mb by 1Gb
or can I add 1Gb next to the 512Mb
Do I only have to change the hardware or also change somthing in the software?
Many question for a better performance, I hope.

If you've never done it before, you can find detailed descriptions on the Apple site. It's actually pretty easy, just need a tiny screwdriver like the type used to adjust hinges on one's glasses.
You can add the 1GB module to the 512 already there and your Mac should read it right away once you restart.

Make sure the ram you get is PC2700. There's also a section in the manual that shows step by step procedures when installing RAM. It's not a hard upgrade at all, you should check out the thread for the 1gig chip from Fry's for really cheap somewhere in this forum, it'll save you a pretty penny.

I bought 2 GB from Fry's outpost.com and installed them in my 17" PowerBook. I have to say that it was the easiest RAM install I've yet done; easier than slot load iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, and Power Mac G5.
Be sure to read the instructions and be careful removing the screws and the memory protection plate. You'll need a #0 Phillips screwdriver.

Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Thanks all, the manual gave all the information I needed. Iwas not aware of the manual om the Apple-site, but they are a great help.
It seems to be easy to install memory by myself. Now I can order my 17"PB 1,5Gc with the cheapest option to created the best machine I need.
