I was wondering does anyone know if the HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 works on a Mac? I read somewhere that it was recognised but couldn't be viewed, is this true or is there software available to play the dvd on.

Any comments welcome, cheers.

It depends upon what you mean by "works"

The physical drive works... but there isn't software that will play the movie.

I hope to see HD-DVD and Blu-ray built in to Leopard DVD Player

Thats what I sorta thought, hopefully Leopard will come with some HD capabilities built-in as you said ( maybe just new dvd player ). Hopefully Apple will also update the 20" iMac to full HD e.g 1080p resolution so that people are able to veiw hd dvd and blu-ray in its best quality.

Yeah it works, but there is no software to play encrypted commercial HD DVDs (or Blu-ray discs), as mitchell says. However, DVD Player already plays back unencrypted HD DVDs (made on DVD-9 media) created by DVD Studio Pro.

As for a 1080p iMac, that's what the 24" iMac is for.

I'm sure it'll bump the price tag a fairly large amount more than it already is with HD DVD Drive in them. I doubt them putting these in until next year.
Browsing on a 24" iMac with 3GB of RAM and a super duper fast processor and lots of goodies :)

Let's hope Steve doesn't "miss the boat" again like he did with CD-RW's. I'm hoping for combo BD/HDD players. Maybe ones that can also burn DVD's if not BD/HDD's.

And put it into a Mac mini. And price it at $600. And release it this Fall.

Thanks..
