Uh... I never doubted Fisher for a minute... (but I just read the entire thread this morning).

Note on the 550 and 667 Mhz bus deal: I don't think it's a big deal to go from 100MHz to 133MHz in Apple's current design. They may have tweaked the motherboard of the new Ti to get 133Mhz FSB and then disabled it back to 100 to get 550MHz instead of 533 (which doesn't sound like much of an improvement over the original 500Mhz best). Don't forget that the iBook is disabled from 100MHz running at 66.

Does anyone know if the 600MHz iBook is 100MHz bus?

Low res screen or not, a Radeon chip, 7500 or otherwise, is a needed boost to the Ti. The Rage 128 Mobility is a dog today. The Ti should be quite the gaming machine now.

I wonder how hot it gets?

Well, the 600MHz iBook has to have a 100MHz Bus, because you can only have eight times the bus. The current (old) iBooks have a multiplier of 7.5 (7.5 * 66 = 500 MHz). If you want to make a 600MHz iBook you would have to use a multiplier of 9 (9 * 66 = 600MHz), which is not possible.

The new iBooks (at least the ones with 600MHz) have to have a 100MHz system bus.

Anyway, I'm gonna get a freakin' 667MHz PowderBook

Dude, if this is true then I am one freakin' happy man!

That was perhaps the one thing that I was overly disappointed about when the new iBook first came out. The extra 100 MHz isn't that shabby either

Let's all pray it's true (throw in a CD-RW/DVD combo drive please)! Anybody find it funny, especially in this case, that MacMall has "Technology Solutions for Tomorrow" as their slogan?
It would be nice if Apple strengthened the casing and fixed the grounding problem with this revision!
Can't wait to place my order!

Anyway, is there a glimmer of hope that we will see new server hardware? GF2MX on a server is pretty insane, no?

I'm awake!!

The Apple Store (online) has all the new specs. Can't believe I'm the first to post about it. Maybe the thread has moved. Anyway, go look for yourself. They have the new iBook and TiBook stuff for all to see.

WAY TO GO FISHERKING!!!

I think there are some MAJOR apologies pending.

I decided to stay awake :-)

I wonder how they managed to put a 133mhz FSB in a notebook and keep the power consumption down.

Also, can anyone confirm whether the radeon mobility chip is the radeon mobility or the radeon mobility 7500? The information on Apple's site doesn't say. Apple claims that the powerbook (I assume they're talking about the 667 mhz model) can run quake 3 in thousands of colours at 1024x768 with a frame rate of 44fps. Can't remember can benchmarks of the top of my head, but that would seem to suggest that they're using the radeon mobility 7500. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's iBook buyin' time!! I think I may have to suck it up and pay $200 for the 100MHz bus and the DVD. I don't want DVD, but I do want that bus speed. We'll see.

Now I need to figure out where the best place is to buy, though. Everyone will have the same prices, I guess it's just a matter of who has the best bundles. Anyone have any tips in this regard?

Double post? I never double post. Hmmm. What causes this?

Anyway, may as well make this a useful post....

The Apple Store now lets you bump up to a 20G drive (from 15G) for $50. I'm thinking that might be a good idea. These aren't very easily modified by the user, and I think it voids the warrantee.

So, I'm looking at the DVD model with a 20G drive. And I think that's going to force me to buy from Apple. The resellers can't bump the HD, can they? How about brick and mortar retailers?

Great announcement, poor timing.

Just received my Education Ti500 last Monday. Now faced with having to return it, under the Apple Store for Education T&Cs that provide a full refund within 7 working days after delivery. The order really should have been stalled by Apple until the new release; particularly because the new models are available immediately and are hardly a surprise for Apple. Grr.

Guys, I'm really disappointed. fisherking did us all a big favor here, and he got a crapload of grief from a lot of you. Don't you think you could step up to the plate here and offer some form of apology?? If you've got the balls to call this guy on the carpet and publically call him a liar, then have the guts to apologize publically when you were wrong.

This is exactly why you need to tread lightly in the first place. Some people are actually honest and actually want to disseminate good info. Even if MacMall had screwed up the specifics, which they didn't, a lot of you should be apologizing right now. This guy got a catalog with some hot info on it, took the time to post it to the forums, and got called a liar without a single shred of credible evidence to the contrary - and even some independent verification!

Well, if nothing else, fisherking can feel vindicated. Sorry you had to go through the crap, though.

How very Tolkien of you. When anomolies or discrepencies were made known in LOTR, he would often consider how such a thing came to be, like an elf having the same name as another elf (this does happen, by the way).

fisher king is the supreme king of rumors and we all bow before his magnificence.

that should do it

nik

ps: not that i was one of the doubters but they are all lame and have left, probably to some other thread where they can doubt things, so i feel i need to step in with some serious apologizing and giving some respect to fisher.

pps: MacMall is going to get some serious steveing for that. hehe.
