People have been led to confuse smog, carbon monoxide (CO) and the pollutants in car exhaust with that life supporting, essential trace gas in our atmosphere, CO2

CO2 is not a pollutant, it is plant food. All life on earth depends on it, especially civilized life, as it forms the bubbles in Swiss cheese, champagne, bread, and Coca-Cola

Michael Mann is still making more hockey sticks even though the IPCC's 2007 report dropped his graphs entirely and also reduced prior claims of disastrous global warming (this has angered Greens who have asked the IPCC to reinsert hysterical language).

http://www.climate-skeptic.com/2008/...key-stick.html

Mann managed to make two enormous mistakes. One, he used a series that the authors of the series very specifically caution has been disturbed and is not a valid proxy for the last 200-300 years. And two, he inverts the whole series! instead of showing it decreasing in the last 200 years (again due to corruption the authors warned about) he shows it upside down, increasing in the last 200 years, which then helps him build his hockey stick on absolutely false data.

One might argue that this is just the indictment of one scientist, but everyone in the profession seems to rally around and defend this one scientist, and the flaws listed above have been public for a while and absolutely no one seems interested in demanding Mann correct his numbers. In fact, most climate scientists spend their time shooting the messenger (Steve McIntyre).
Michael Mann's new graph:

http://img392.imageshack.us/my.php?i...3401053ij6.jpg

The graph with his fake proxies removed reveal we are art the start of a cooling phase and temps are lower than the Medieval Climate Optimum 1000 years ago:

I do not see how post-bombing a thread with material no one cares to read or has already seen ad nauseam will somehow change hearts and minds on this issue. There is plenty to question as science will generally do the questioning on their own and there's a wealth of material liberally available to anyone curious. Worse is failing to address the wealth of questions that come from the posted material or merely posting more of it in response.

While I generally oppose the circular aspect behind a global government entity created for the specific purpose of examining and reporting on manmade global phenomena in order to influence global government policy; I fail to see how any of the posted material helps make the case against it. To all involved I say quite comfortably; chill. You're not helping a damned thing.

**edited to include, that Worf clip makes me roll on the floor with laughter.

The richest will live as they please, use the media to brainwash you into anti-human socialist sustainability programmes (which have always failed to accomplish anything), and eliminate the poor in a massive slow holocaust:

"Isn't the only hope for the planet that the
industrialized civilizations collapse?
Isn't it our responsiblity to bring that about?"
- Maurice Strong,
founder of the UN Environment Programme

"A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the
United States. De-development means bringing our
economic system into line with the realities of
ecology and the world resource situation."
- Paul Ehrlich,
Professor of Population Studies

"The only hope for the world is to make sure there is not another
United States. We can't let other countries have the same
number of cars, the amount of industrialization, we have in the US.
We have to stop these Third World countries right where they are."
- Michael Oppenheimer,
Environmental Defense Fund

"Global Sustainability requires the deliberate quest of poverty,
reduced resource consumption and set levels of mortality control."
- Professor Maurice King

"We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place
for capitalists and their projects. We must reclaim the roads and
plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams,
free shackled rivers and return to wilderness
millions of acres of presently settled land."
- David Foreman,
co-founder of Earth First!

"Complex technology of any sort is an assault on
human dignity. It would be little short of disastrous for us to
discover a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy,
because of what we might do with it."
- Amory Lovins, Rocky Mountain Institute

"The prospect of cheap fusion energy is the
worst thing that could happen to the planet."
- Jeremy Rifkin,
Greenhouse Crisis Foundation

"Giving society cheap, abundant energy would be the
equivalent of giving an idiot child a machine gun."
- Prof Paul Ehrlich, Stanford University

"Our insatiable drive to rummage deep beneath
the surface of the earth is a willful expansion
of our dysfunctional civilization into Nature."
- Al Gore,
Earth in the Balance

"The big threat to the planet is people: there are too many,
doing too well economically and burning too much oil."
-- Sir James Lovelock,
BBC Interview

"My three main goals would be to reduce human population to
about 100 million worldwide, destroy the industrial infrastructure
and see wilderness, with it's full complement of species,
returning throughout the world."
-Dave Foreman,
co-founder of Earth First!

"Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the
affluent middle class - involving high meat intake,
use of fossil fuels, appliances, air-conditioning,
and suburban housing - are not sustainable."
- Maurice Strong,
Rio Earth Summit

"All these dangers are caused by human intervention
and it is only through changed attitudes and
behaviour that they can be overcome.
The real enemy, then, is humanity itself."
- Club of Rome,
The First Global Revolution

"Mankind is the most dangerous, destructive, selfish
and unethical animal on the earth."
- Michael Fox,
vice-president of The Humane Society

"Humans on the Earth behave in some ways like a
pathogenic micro-organism, or like the cells of a tumor."
- Sir James Lovelock,
Healing Gaia

"The Earth has cancer
and the cancer is Man."
- Club of Rome,
Mankind at the Turning Point

"A total population of 250-300 million people,
a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal."
- Ted Turner,
founder of CNN and major UN donor

"... the resultant ideal sustainable population is hence
more than 500 million but less than one billion."
- Club of Rome,
Goals for Mankind

"If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth
as a killer virus to lower human population levels."
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,
patron of the World Wildlife Fund

"I suspect that eradicating small pox was wrong.
It played an important part in balancing ecosystems."
- John Davis, editor of Earth First! Journal

"The extinction of the human species may not
only be inevitable but a good thing."
- Christopher Manes, Earth First!

"In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up
with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,
water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill."
- Club of Rome,
The First Global Revolution

"We need to get some broad based support,
to capture the public's imagination...
So we have to offer up scary scenarios,
make simplified, dramatic statements
and make little mention of any doubts...
Each of us has to decide what the right balance
is between being effective and being honest."
- Stephen Schneider,
Stanford Professor of Climatology,
lead author of many IPCC reports

"Unless we announce disasters no one will listen."
- Sir John Houghton,
first chairman of IPCC

"It doesn't matter what is true,
it only matters what people believe is true."
- Paul Watson,
co-founder of Greenpeace

‘There’s a lot of rich people backing this cause’
A former lawyer for Enron, shocked to discover that his main job would be to help draft a global warming treaty, tells spiked that censorship and conformism are preventing proper investigation of climate change hysteria.
That big players in global energy should be in cahoots with environmentalists and climate change alarmists came as something of a shock to Horner. ‘Though I was a fully grown man, I had yet to understand the concept of “rent seeking” or even these “baptist and bootlegger” coalitions.’ Just as prohibitionists and drink smugglers had a common interest in maintaining a ban on alcohol, so big companies that want massive subsidies for renewable energy schemes and the right to sell emissions permits – the nearest thing yet to selling thin air – can find common ground with those who want us all to reduce our ‘carbon footprints’. Soon I'll tell you the deepest secrets of an organised criminal and front man for the Kremlin, Oleg Deripaska. I'll tell you who his connections are in British and US government, the EU and banking, I'll tell you about how he and the Kremlin threatened bosses of big firms into leaving their jobs, I'll tell you how they are gradually taking over as many resources as possible from metal to water, and I'll tell you the influence they have had in writing up climate change treaties so that Russia's biggest gangsters will have Europe, Africa and North America by the throat.

When I land that bombshell on you then some of you will realise the importance of physical action to end all this Environmentalist and Big Brother lust for power. They've gone too far and are taking the piss. Even top brass in the military, intelligence and government bureaucracy are sick of these bastards because they will suffer too from all this carbon dioxide, green and socialist nonsense.

Wait… is this the realization of the last failed "bombshell", or is this an entirely new bombshell? You've got so many going on that I can never be sure.

But nevertheless, I'm confident that we will all realize the importance of what you stress. Soon. After the bombshell.

Does anyone actually listen to Ehrlich anymore?

At what point does someone with a long record of saying outlandish things that have no basis in reality eventually get made a pariah in academia? If not Ehrlich, I don't know who. Maybe that's the problem....

Nope. The crazy is the person (you) who waits all day long for me to post so you can respond immediately. Sad life.

But listen Comrade Brother, why don't you do a Revolutionary Act for the Glorious Red and Green Movement for Change by reducing your carbon footprint completely. It's easy. Just kill yourself!

I'd only do that if I and others did say something months earlier. The list I'm drawing up is an agenda list, most of which you will NEVER see in the news. Just take a look at how the British press cozy up to Peter Mandelson and Nat Rothschild's relationship with Deripaska - a man who is banned from entering the US. They don't challenge it at all, despite the number of Russian businessmen who have been threatened by the Kremlin to leave companies they founded and have sought exile in Britain.

Deripaska is a man who wants to take over every industry he can and also says he would be very happy to give all the assets to the Kremlin one day (because he is a Kremlin frontman parading as a private industrialist). Right now he has his sights on the American car industry but isn't allowed in the US because the CIA have a file on him so thick you could call it an encyclopedia.

So what is a mega industrialist doing drafting climate change treaties? The answer should be obvious.

The latest skirmish in the global warming war - barely reported in America - occurred after two bloggers found that the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies data wrongly cast October as the warmest in recorded history. It turns out that the mistake was due to an error that wrongly tapped September temperature records from Russia. Christopher Booker of the Sunday Telegraph of London found the mistake startling in light of other contrary climate statistics, including National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration findings of 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month.

In an e-mail, Goddard researcher Gavin Schmidt said, "The incorrect analysis was online for less than 24 hours." (Thank bloggers Anthony Watts, an American meteorologist, and Steve McIntyre, a Canadian computer analyst, for catching the mistake.) The error occurred because a report "had the wrong month label attached. There is quality control at NOAA and GISS but this particular problem had not been noticed before and the existing QC procedures didn't catch it. These have now been amended."

As for the snowfall records and low temperatures cited by Booker, Schmidt chalked them up to "cherry picking" data. He added, "Far more important are the long-term trends."

Now honest mistakes happen - even in high-powered, well-funded research facilities. Just last year, again thanks to the vigilance of Watts and McIntyre, Goddard had to reconfigure its findings and recognize 1934 - not 1998, as it had figured - as the hottest year on record in American history.

Alas, it is hard to see Goddard as objective when its director, James Hansen, testified in a London court in September in support of six eco-vandals. A jury then acquitted the six Greenpeace activists on charges of vandalizing a British coal-fired power plant based on the "lawful excuse" defense that their use of force would prevent greater damage to the environment after Hansen predicted the one Kingsnorth plant could push 400 species into extinction.

Of course, he could be wrong.

There's a point where people step across the line from "scientist" to "advocate" for a particular position, and that has an effect on a person's credibility, IMO.

As a scientist, you stake your reputation on simply reporting observations. If what you observe changes or no longer supports a theory, you do nothing to your reputation since you where just reporting your observations and how those observations might be a part of a bigger picture.

Once you turn into an "advocate" for a theory, you stake your reputation on what you claim the observations mean. That biases your work and has little to do with "science", IMO. You don't have to look any farther than Ehrlich or even Hansen for evidence.

Aside from the fact Hansen is a tree worshipping nutcase, at least he sees the problem of all the carbon fatcats who will be making money from thin air.

“Carbon trading does not solve the emission problem at all,” he says. “In fact it gives industries a way to avoid reducing their emissions. The rules are too complex and it creates an entirely new class of lobbyists and fat cats.”
Permits are bought from governments or from carbon traders, who, naturally, charge a commission. For the City the arrival of carbon trading is a bonanza. The sector already employs about 3,000 people and has created a few dozen new millionaires.
And more costs passed to consumers as the rich get richer:

Those millions collected by the Treasury, for example, came mainly from UK power companies, and the cost will be added directly to our bills, as will the cost of annual CO2 permits in future.
British consumers are already paying about £60 extra each year on their gas and electricity bills to support renewable energy. Will they take more of this medicine in the middle of the worst recession for decades? Nervous politicians remember the backlash in 2000 when angry lorry drivers almost brought the country to a standstill over the fuel accelerator tax.
A nice little earner for everyone except the poor mugs (us) at the end of the chain – but can it save the planet?
Bollocks can it save the planet. Carbon dioxide emissions simply have not caused any global warming worth noting once the Urban Heat Island effect is removed from the charts.

It gets worse. The Russians have made fantastic progress at manipulating carbon trading to their advantage by off shoring all productivity. The Kremlin and its frontmen will be the world's biggest benefector of carbon trading:

One of the unintended consequences of the carbon trading system is a potentially huge – and massively destabilising – transfer of money and influence from the industrialised West to Russia. This is because when the Kremlin signed up to the Kyoto treaty it was given an annual emissions limit based on the horrors pumped out by filthy old Soviet industries back in 1990. Since then Russia’s industrial base has contracted so drastic-ally that it uses only a fraction of its allowances. One recent analyst’s report found that Russia has accumulated emissions permits worth about four billion tonnes of CO2. The report warned: “Russia must be singled out as a potential threat to the ability of the market to produce a meaning-ful carbon price.”

There is of course another huge incongruity in Russia, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of coal, gas and oil, also in effect having control of the system for reducing emissions from these fossil fuels. It means that the West could end up paying the Russians for fuel – and then paying them again for the right to burn it.
And now they are coming after you personally. You are no longer a unique free-thinking human. In their eyes you are nothing but a Carbon Footprint to be worked and taxed to death.

There is a solution to this nonsense. Fire bullets at politicians and fanatic Greens. It's the only choice when there is so much government manipulation, so many greedy lobbyists, a threat to civil liberties by selling our companies and sovereignty to emerging powers who do not respect human freedom, thousands of scientists not given a voice in the media, and a media that will no longer step on government's toes.

You've shown yourself time and time again to be a paranoid, possibly deranged and most certainly damaged individual. This isn't the first time you've advocated for killing people who don't share your ideological beliefs, in this thread and others. Reported, and I hope the mods will finally grow some balls and do something about your consistent breaking of clear forum rules.

PaperNotes, I've been saying it for years: show me one peer reviewed study that shows evidence to the contrary. Just one! Seriously. You would think that, after nearly 30 years, one of your lot would actually produce something considering you think the "truth" is so obvious and that the general consensus is wrong.

30 years! Stop posting links to Conservative blogs and hyperbole. Try some real science for a change. For the gods' sake put up or shut up.

That's why studies are peer reviewed. If you're an advocate for something and you're not following proper procedure for scientific theory, it will become evident during the review process.

You will tell us? Isn't that what this paragraph is already doing???

Is this going be like your last bombshell which, if I remember correctly, never dropped or even made it out of the R&D stage?

I hope there's a pie chart in there somewhere!

But seriously, get treated for paranoia soon.

I've showed you dozens. I'll keep showing you more.

30 years! Stop posting links to Conservative blogs and hyperbole. Try some real science for a change. For the gods' sake put up or shut up.
Count all the links, scientific articles, blogs, videos and journals I have referenced so far. Then count the number of links to these so called "Conservative blogs". They don't even make up a tenth of the links presented. Most are from scientists and independent journalists.

What's more, I've stated directly to you no less than three times that I'm British, libertarian and atheist. Yet you keep trying to perpetuate some lie that I'm some cliché Neo-Con that cliché liberal Democrats have been programmed like robots to hate. Who are you trying to sell your pitch to? Passers by? Unregistered surfers? Try harder.

You are posting lies as you have always done to stifle the debate and silence all views that conflict with your own. When you can't do that you resort to insults and ridiculing.

Crook:

Amongst these bean-counters-turned-Gaia-botherers were representatives from IDEAcarbon, which offers carbon market intelligence, ratings and advice to governments, organisations and companies. Climate Change Committee member, Samuel Fankhauser, a former climate change economist for the World Bank, is the company’s managing director, strategic advice. IDEAcarbon’s parent company, IDEAglobal, appointed Nicholas Stern, author of the highly influential Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change and former chief economist at the World Bank, as vice chairman, last year.
Crook:

Prominent environmental campaigner, and author of Kyoto 2, how to manage the Global Greenhouse, Oliver Tickell protests of carbon trading schemes that, "Carbon fortunes are indeed being made, and many of them in the City of London, which dominates the global carbon marketplace". Instead, he favours carbon offsetting – paying poor people not to develop their economies – rather than trading.

But Oliver’s eyes are greener than his mind; he too stands to profit from his environmental activism. His father, former diplomat and patron of the neo-Malthusian Optimum Population Trust, Sir Crispin Tickell, who made the first arguments influential for the greening of the UK Government in the 1970s with his book, Climatic Change and World Affairs, was appointed chair of a committee to check the integrity of carbon-offsetting firm, Climate Care, part of JPMorgan's Environmental Markets group.

Oliver Tickell is a shareholder and is entitled to 0.3 per cent of royalties. Asked if there was a conflict of interest, his father told The Times: "Frankly, no."
Crook:

Former Greenpeace activist, and founder of alternative energy firm Solarcentury and the world's first private equity fund for renewable energy, Bank Sarasin's New Energies Invest AG, Jeremy Leggett, was, between 2002 and 2006, a member of the UK Government's Renewables Advisory Board. The board, it explains,

"…aims to provide the Secretary of State with independent, impartial and authoritative advice on policies, programmes and measures, to improve Government understanding of the obstacles and opportunities for the development and deployment of renewable technologies in the UK"
Impartial? Independent? Buy a solar panel – from Leggett, perhaps – and the UK Government will stump up £2,500 of the costs.
Ahem

Reported. This is all you have to offer every day.

This isn't the first time you've advocated for killing people who don't share your ideological beliefs, in this thread and others.

I advocate direct physical action against any lying elitist who has benefited from the increasing air of censorship that has pervaded the world of late. If you're trying to make me ashamed of that then you score a Fail. I'm not ashamed. I'm not ashamed because it has been seen that politicians will bend over backwards for any group that threatens their interests enough.

Or you could, you know, vote them out of office, or something. Or you could run for that office. Would it be so bad if those people were living and just not employed by the state?

Really, what's with the violence? Hope you're not one of those Amoral Atheists who give atheists a bad name?
