Does anyone have any stories of using a g5 software cd to install osx 10.3.5 on a non-g5 computer? I'm getting a new hard drive tomorrow and that's the only set of discs i have access to. If anyone has tried this, please let me know. The discs do boot my computer, but i don't know if the os install will work.

Please, no discussion of legality. I am looking purely for actual experience with this situation. I own all of the software under discussion. Thanks.

poocat.

I don't believe you can install as i just went through this myself with G5 install disks and my old Sawtooth. What you can do is hook them up via firewire target disk mode or throw the drive in an external case and install it on the drive, then boot the non-G5 off that drive. The main issue is that there is software (Art directors toolkit, tony hawk etc.) included on the G5 install that prevents you from being able to install elsewhere.

Thanks a lot. So you can't just opt not to install that sw? That seems strange (i've never tried) because what if you just didn't want it anyway? I know it will work with a firewire dump. Maybe i'll just do that.

Thanks again. More experiences welcome.
