hoping that this doesn't get run over in the posting traffic:
Does X retail include keyboard layouts for languages such as Russian, Hebrew, and Arabic?
I can use them just fine through Classic (at least under the PB) but really want this stuff native. Thanks.

The answer is no for those three languages that you mentioned.

Maybe someone with the real version could post all the languages it has.
I poked around Apple's site and couldn't find a list. Notice there's no "spec sheet" PDF there.

Apple Israel told me that OS X would not initially support Hebrew, except in Classic. If OS X is so worldly as we've all been told, anyone know when they'll get around to localizing the OS for those who don't live in Europe or Japan?

Someone with the shrink wrapped OS X must know what languages are in there. Same as the second PB release? Post 'em here.

I was wondering if there is Korean font and input method in Mac OS X.
I was afraid that Mac OS X goes localized Mac OS X route.
Take a look at Win2000. It supports basically supports foreign language
fonts and inputs without localized version.
Mac OS 9 language kit is OK, but unless you set specific resource's font
to Korean, you don't see Korean in window title. You can view web page in Korean, but you need localized version of Mac OS 9 to use Korean everywhere.
I wish Mac OS X handles foreign language like Win2000 does.

OSX's language support seems to be rather like how you desvribe Win2K's. The only real issue is getting the languages set up. Korean is not in the initial set of languages, but I'd wager it's coming, if not by July at least by the end of the year. Getting a good framework for multiple languages is the hard part, but that's done. However, then getting the actual languages plugges into the framework also takes time.

I am also under the impression that "the framework is there". However, I'm curious what that means. For example, certainly not ever shareware (for example) app will be localized into every language, but that WOULD mean that it would automatically support text in other languages, without developers having to do anything. Is this actually the case? WorldScript only went so far with OS 9, and Hebrew/Arabic support was terrible, because programs didn't know how to handle right-to-left text. Any word?
