Once your linux will be reunning you'll need to secure it, and follow some security mailing list in order not to let your machine in hands of script kiddies. Anyway here's My answer :
</font> - <font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif"> <a href="http://www.mandrakesoft.com/products/range?wslang=en" target="_blank">Mandrake</a> is the easiest to set up</font></li>
- <font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif"> <a href="http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/" target="_blank">Debian</a> is the best linux distro available.</font></li>
- <font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif"> depending on your hardware I'de recommand checking out <a href="http://www.opendarwin.org" target="_blank">darwin</a> or <a href="http://www.netbsd.org" target="_blank">NetBSD</a>.
</font></li>
<font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">The two latest are *BSD system and are a lot more mature from the administration point of view and the quality of the releases. *BSD does QA a lot better than most linux distros.

Take a look at Slackware - I have never touched a Linux distro before and had it up and running in a few hours. It now serves as a mail/www server for my LAN. I personally chose it for its small memory footprint.

Reporting back. Debian 30r0 ppc installed with barely any problems.
the only hitch was that the CD wouldn't boot into the kernel on my Blue G3/350.
Simply following the Open Firmware boot instructions of:
boot cd:,install\powermac\yaboot found the loader and config fine!
Final note: if you have used fink under osx you'll be very familiar with Debian's pkg manager <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Thanks for the help and suggestions folks.
