Just got my new PowerMac G5 today. Found an issue:

The machine works, but the Ethernet connection is sloppy loose (It DOES work, since I'm typing this from the machine right now).

If I wiggle the cat5 cable a bit, I lose the connection. This tells me the e-net controller on board is fine, just the port is jacked up.

I have tried several different cables.

Is this worth sending it back (will probably be without the machine for 2 months)?
Hmm..... I ordered this from PowerMax, and would be willing to accept a shoddy port (minor problem, from my perspective), but I do need ethernet, a free PCI Gigabit ethernet card would placate me.

Argh, what should I do???

Do you mean that the cable plug is loose in the port, or that the port moves independently of the motherboard?

Call AAPL support and see what their diagnosis is, and stress that you need quick turnaround if you have to send it in.

Definitely call Apple. There should be an authorized service provider somewhere on your continent who can replace a $.50 part. I don't think Trans-Atlantic shipping for the whole machine will be necessary.

The male plug is loose in the female socket. Not a very tight fit at all.

Try downloading some porn, it will make your male plug bigger and fit better.

Alas, that effect will be temporary. Then you're back to the loose plug.
