Just game 3. Sharks were really lack luster for games 1 & 2. Their high defensive strategy wasn't working. In game 3 they did pound and ground, and it worked. So I say stick with pound and ground.

Ducks were non too happy with that strategy. There was a lot of tension in that game. I was surprised there was only 1 fight.

Wings are done for this round too! It was a crazy game, which ended up with a tough (but in my humble opinion correct) call against the Blue Jackets, and a PP goal for the Wings 50 sec before the end.
Good thing the BJs did not play that way since the first game though...

Unless a truly remarkable turnaround happens (and I suppose three straight games is possible, although unlikely), it looks like the Sharks are headed for another early-round flame-out.

The bigger they are...

Crazy eh? Ron Wilson is probably smiling right now... well he would be if he wasn't saddled with coaching the Leafs.
A Duck-Wings confrontation would probably be a lot of fun. Can't get enough of Pronger...
I hope the Caps bring the series back to the MSG. I'd like to see more of AO.

Not me... the only reason I'm doing well in my hockey pool is because Mike Green and Ovechkin are stinkin it up!

What can I say... I've got Mark Recchi, that guy is killin me.

GO CAPS!

Let there be some justice in this series - the Rangers are average at best, even with their goalie. Caps are leading in EVERY important statistic in this series. When the Rangers won, they were close games that could have gone either way. When the Caps win, it's a complete blow-out as it should be against the Rangers.

Tonight in Game 7: CAPS 4, Rangers 2

No... I think he just likes to laugh at Sharks fans who consistently can't figure out that Playoff Hockey is different from the regular season for which their team is built.

Exactly, the Sharks know how to play in the regular season but the playoffs are a different animal that they can't comprehend.

Pens get the Caps in the next round, should be a great series.
Predictions Round 2
Pens v Caps - Pens in 6
Bruins v Canes - Bruins in 5
Canucks v Hawks - Hawks in 7
Wings v Ducks - Wings in 5

Wow do I ever look silly!
7/8! not too bad... Although I got only one number of games in a series correctly. The Habs was a silly gamble : I figured the centennial was going to motivate them somehow...

Here comes next round
Wings-Ducks : Wings in 6 (can't pick against my Wings...)
Canucks-Hawks : Canucks in 5 (Luongo, Luongo, Luongo)

Caps-Pens : Pens in 6 (my heart is with the Caps tho)
Bruins-Canes : Bruins in 7 (The 'Canes showed that they won't quit)

Next year is going to be a completely new Sharks team. I don't think any of the players are going to hang around after this screw up.

Just picked up two tickets for Game 1 of the Caps/Penguins series on Saturday. Includes two hats, two rally towels, and buffet lunch with open bar before the game. Sweet seats too - upper level, first row, on the blue line.

CAPS in 6 (they trounced the Penguins in the season series 3-0-1: 4-3 W, 5-2 W, 3-4 SO, 6-3 W). Should be an entertaining series with Ovey, Sid the Kid, and Malkin.

Playoffs are a different animal than the regular season..
We will see how Varlamov handles one of the most stacked offensive powers in the NHL. The Rangers were not a true test.

True. But the Caps were able to score (a lot in games 5 and 6) against one of the top goalies in the league. That's why I said it should be entertaining - I expect these to be high scoring games with the offensive power (and average goalies) both these teams have.

If Varlamov plays like he did in the previous round, Caps should have it easy. If he doesn't, I expect Coach to yank him for Theodore (but right now, he needs to ride the wave - Varlamov is playing out of his gourd).

Lundqvist played average in 4 of the games of that series (pulled in 2 games) and the caps only scored 2 goals in 6.

No, Caps scored 5 goals in 6.

Game 1: 3-4 Rangers

Game 2: 0-1 Rangers

Game 3: 4-0 Caps

Game 4: 1-2 Rangers

Game 5: 4-0 Caps

Game 6: 5-3 Caps

Game 7: 2-1 Caps

So actually, Caps scored a lot in three games (3, 5, and 6), not only two games.

Minutiae.

The "perfect man" scores 50 sec before the end of the game for his 2nd goal and 3rd point of the night : that's why he is the captain. That's why he will go down in the books as the best defenseman in the NHL. Ever.

I was thinking at the end of the 2nd period that should the Wings win that game it would be a steal. After the 3rd and the 2 OTs I have the feeling that the Ducks got away with one... Oh well. It was brutal at times, fast paced, and everybody was out of steam at the end.
Let's see what happens in Anaheim on Tuesday. I still like the Wings' chance. The Ducks don't have much past the Getzlaf-Perry-Ryan triumvirat.

I can't believe no one picked Getzlaf, hahaha... he's just been a monster these playoffs.

He's been the Ducks' MVP so for this postseason, even more so than Hiller. The best player on ice yesterday.

I did not watch the game, and from the highlights the Wings did not seem to get much on Hiller. But man, the league need to do something about the "intent to whistle" because on that goal that should have been, the ref blew the whistle way after the puck went in the net...
This said, it does not seem that the Wing got much on Hiller, and the won't win if they don't...

Selfish, I know, but I'm kind of glad the Caps lost last night because I have tickets for Game 5 Saturday night back here in DC. LOL

Here's hoping for wins Friday and Saturday so the Caps can close it out at home when I'm in the stands!

Games so far have been lower scoring than I anticipated. Good goal-tending by both sides.
