Is there any way to change the "latest headlines" bookmark to an actual "feed reader", i.e. Google reader???? or at least change the way its set up???

Copy the link for the latest headlines and paste it into the add subscription box on Google Reader, or add this link to your bookmarks toolbar and click it after loading the latest headlines in Firefox.

Oh, I misunderstood. With Google Reader open, click the star at the end of the address bar twice and select the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.
