I recently found an iPhone (3G I believe) lying on the side of the road and picked it up. It appeared to be working (made some sounds etc), but it's screen would always be solid white. I took it to an AT&T store and they said that they wouldn't be able to figure out who's it was or anything like that, so I should just keep it for myself. Anyways, I was thinking I might as well try and fix the screen and keep as an iPod touch. Would replacing the screen with something like this: Amazon.com: Apple Iphone 3G Replacement Front Glass and Digitizer - Repair your cracked glass: Everything Else solve the white screen problem?

It's possible that it's just the screen that's broken, yes. It might also be a result of water damage, and no amount of screen replacement is going to solve the problem.

Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

Yeah, I had a feeling something like that COULD be the case, but if the touch screen capabilities work (I can swipe to unlock and do everything else, I just can't see what I'm doing), what are the chances that screen replacing won't work? In other words, is it worth a try?

Well, I just ordered a replacement off amazon for the screen of my Wife's 3G; At $25 (what can you get for that these days?), it has to be worth a try for you.

Found one for 15 =]. Guess I'll go through with it.
