Will "just any" PC-133 RAM module work in my G4 733? I'm on eBay and the vast majority seem geared for PCs. The sellers I ask don't seem to know.

Works on my G4/400, and every G4 machine I've ever put it into.

Well, here are the specs as listed by one guy:

Memory Specs:

*

BRAND NEW
*

WORKS AS BOTH PC 100 AND PC 133
*

168 PIN DIMM
*

64 X 4 CONFIGURATION
*

16 OR 32 CHIP DESIGN
*

3.3V
*

CAS 3 DRAM
*

7 NS
*

100% TESTED (basic test)
* MEMORY IS HIGH DENSITY SO YOUR BOARD MUST BE ABLE TO ACCEPT 512 MB CHIPS OR IT MAY BE RECOGNIZED AS A 128 MB CHIP.
* PLEASE VERIFY WITH YOUR MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURER THAT YOUR BOARD WILL SUPPORT 64 X 4 MEMORY - WE CANNOT GUARANTEE COMPATIBILITY WITH ALL BOARDS.
*

IN ADDITION, PLEASE CHECK IF THE MOTHERBOARD BIOS SUPPORTS THE NEW STANDARD (64 X 4). IF NOT, IT WILL ONLY READ 128 MB OR 256 MB. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURER TO UPDATE THE BIOS TO ACCEPT (64 X 4) NEW STANDARD IF YOU PLAN TO PURCHASE THIS MEMORY.

Think it'll work? There's a bunch of mumbo-jumbo on Apple's site about "CL3" and stuff like that.

Last question, aside from eBay, any suggestions on where to get the cheapest 512MB module, if PeeCee RAM is fine?

Kevin,

I'm assuming my 733 is Quicksilver. (What on earth is the difference?)

Did you just buy the RAM from a PC vendor or . . .?

I really regret buying up 1.5 GB of PC-100 RAM last October or so when PC-133 was so damn cheap and now I have to pay at least twice if not more for RAM labelled as "for the Mac" (EX. Ramseeker.com)

It makes my blood boil

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Also, on Apple's site they say "a maximum of 1.5 GB RAM if running OS 9.2"

Does this mean that if you have 4 GB RAM and boot up with OS X it'll be able to use all 4 GB but then if you reboot in OS 9 it'll only be able to use 1.5 GB?

Such kidders, them Apple folks.

Got mine from www.pcconnection.com (www.macconnection.com is their sister site). Really cheap and it works fine.
