Just let us drag and drop the bookmark icon right into our "Bookmarks Bar" folders (allowing for navigation of subfolders, of course):

NOTE: To clarify things I should mention that the "Type a Name for the Bookmark" dialog will still come up after you drag and drop.

Sure, sounds nice; however, does it really (really) save you that much time from just doing it the menu route? I doubt you'd be able to edit names easily that route either, at least compared to the traditional menu method...

Yes, it really (really) would. Actually, I think after Apple incorporates this... people will feel like jackasses wasting time doing it the old, cumbersome, slow way.

When you drag and drop the bookmark, a menu should pop up and let you name it. Just as it functions now when you drag and drop bookmarks into the Bookmarks Bar.

Thanks for the response/critique.

While I agree it may save "some" time, I don't think people are saving bookmarks that regularly (every single day) to make use of such a time saver....but again, I like the idea and think Apple should incorporate it for sure...

How about the ability to drag a URL onto the "Show All Bookmarks" icon and have your page open up and show you the dang bookmarks

I would say it's logical... and I like eye candy...

While we are at it, why don't they add the cube effect to the tabs?

NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL.

If you hit command-d, a nice dialog shows up letting you select whatever folder you need ina nice popup menu, did I miss something? why is this needed at all?

That's what I said above basically, and was told it was for "speed/efficiency"...

how about something useful, like being able to search through bookmarks? or is that already staring me in the face?

I'm assuming this would work similar to spring loaded folders in the finder.

It's be an interesting idea... redundant, but interesting and nice eye-candy.

Speaking of wanted features, when are we going to be allowed to do that via the Dock as well?

Go to bookmarks window, Command-F?

(at work, can't check)

Yeah, I know.. as a matter of fact I use Cocoa Gestures to pull that (command-d dialog) up with a simple mouse gesture... and it's cool and everything...

BUT...

It's far more intuitive and less steps to use the method I propose... and, above all, more Mac-like and a better use of the user interface.

Apple invented spring-loaded folders and has kept them around for all these years for some reason... right? Well, let's put that same award-winning user interface to work in Safari.

Jeez... if you were in charge of Apple I suppose you'd remove drag and drop entirely, right? Hahaha... just kidding. But seriously, think about this... why does Apple let you drag bookmarks to the Bookmarks Bar in the first place? To save time, effort and make it more intuitive... that's why. I'm simply proposing a logical extension of this feature already built into Safari. I think most will agree that this makes absolute sense if they think about it for a sec.

Thanks for your comment/critique.

It wouldn't actually be worth it because I don't think the page titles are ever worth a damn. I need to be able the edit the Bookmark title as I save it.

Now, give me an option to have a box pop up to rename it 'after' I drag it... that may work. But, just D&D, no thanks.

Of course it should have that option! Just like it does now when you drag and drop to the Bookmarks Bar. I'm not suggesting a "downgrade" for my "upgrade"... hahaha...

I figure most people would consider that a given since it is already incorporated, so I feel it's a little redundant to mention it... But, now if there is still any doubt... No, I don't think you should remove the naming functionality from the process... hahaha...

Tell me about it... it's silly that you can put a folder or volume in the Dock for quick navigation (similiar to OS 9's Finderpop and OS X's Fruitmenu)... but you can't drag and drop files to those handy nested folder locations.

I'll never understand why Apple refuses to implement this. I know for a fact there are no technical reasons not to do so.

Quickest is "option-command-B" then "command-F"

Not essential, but I guess adding it wouldn't get in the way of anything (like Spring-Loaded folders in the Finder).

I just want to be able to rename my bookmarks in the Bookmarks Bar without having to open the whole Bookmarks View (which totally hides the current page).

Just "control-click" the bookmark in the Bookmarks Bar and select "Edit Name".

Exactly. Except it's really more intuitive than spring loaded folders because everything is presented in a handy list view and as you hover over folders they open while not concealing your pathway. That way, as you search for the best folder to drop the item, you can easily and quickly maneuver between folders until you find the right one and drop the item.

This should also be an option in the Finder for that matter.

I agree, a cube effect w/ Safari tabs should be optional for those on slower machines.

No, that opens the whole bookmark view, covering the current page. I wanna be able to edit the name in the bookmarks bar, like OmniWeb.

So far, it looks like 26% of the voters on this poll like doing things the hard way... the slow way...

...instead of the way of the cow.

Yes, I like it. I can't believe it's not already like that now.

What I'd really like is built-in sorting (alphabetically).

Yes, I know that there are 3rd-party programs that already let you do this.

I don't think this should be high on the list of priorities...prehaps in the 'code if i'm bored pile'. We have a working solution to bookmarking that is very simple - click one button, name it, select a folder, click another.

There are plenty of other more useful features Apple could add before this - just look at omniweb's feature list. After all, I don't add to, or change my bookmarks *much* - and I wouldn't have thought most people do....and I hardly never switch to the bookmark view.

Having said that, theres no real reason why it shouldn't go in, somebody might use it

Thanks f1000. I agree, being able to sort bookmarks needs to happen! (with an "undo" feature as well in case of sorting "accidents")

One other thing, when you hover over open "Bookmarks Bar" menus I really wish you didn't have to click outside of the menu list in order to click and open another menu. I wish it worked like the Apple menu bar where the menus automatically pop open as you hover over the menu topics. Consistency.
