Heya, I just bought a used iBook G4 933mhz and did a fresh (not upgrade) of OS X.4. Udated completely. Nothing else installed. However, the F12 key does not launch Dashboard. It works to eject the CDROM, though.
Is this a bug? I had an iBook G4 1ghz a while ago and the F12 function for Dashboard worked fine...

Just tried that. Works. I've now reassigned Dashboard to another key cuz I don't like having to use the Fn key, but is there any way to make Dashboard the F12 key w/o having to use Fn?
Thanks for the help.

Then the volume up/down/mute and brightness up/down won't work.

i reassighned the dashboard key f12 to f8 because of that problem. You can do that in the sys prefs.
