You can go to the apple store and get an adapter that'll get it to work. If you just go to the store and tell them what you want they should know what it is. They don't have them on display, you need to ask so they can get one from in back. They at least don't have them on display at the one in West Des Moines Iowa. Then just get the cable to connect it to the TV. I have one for Video and SVideo.

You need:

A miniDVI to DVI converter; they're about $20 from Apple.

A DVI-HDMI cable - 6ft for $10 12ft for $15 25ft for $45
Beware, if you buy the DVI-HDMI cable at RadioShack or BestBuy or similar, they'll probably charge $100 for 5 feet.

If I remembered right, you'll have to put your laptop to sleep, connect an external keyboard and mouse to the laptop and then it wake it up by pressing any key on the keyboard.

This allows you to use your MB with the lid closed. Otherwise, you'll have to use the MB in extended display mode and watch your movies on the big screen.

Or, download InsomniaX, and use it at your own risk.

you can get away with just using a mouse once the lid is closed. you will also need to keep it powered to work with the lid down.
