BlackBerry has starting sending invites to Beta Zone members, asking them to participate in a test of its upcoming BlackBerry Messenger apps for iOS and Android. Not all Beta Zone members have received the email, which asks select people to create a new BlackBerry ID and Beta Zone account, and then find the test under a list of eligible programs. The
beginning of a beta does, however, suggest that the apps are finally nearing completion.
In May the company
promised that BBM would arrive on iOS and Android "later this summer." The chat platform has been one of the key selling points of BlackBerry phones, and the company may be trying to take advantage of the newfound popularity of IM apps to increase its exposure. Screenshots below are said to show the current state of the Android app.
