VLC. No purchase needed.

QuickTime Pro unlocks fullscreen and export in QuickTime Player.

QuickTime already plays AVI files if it knows the codec. Many AVI files contain video in the DIVX codec. For this you need to download the DIVX codec for QuickTime:

http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

You could also use VLC to display it:

thank you for the replies, I use VLC but it isn't as fluid as quicktime. Also I get error messages with VLC. I have 10.4.2 and quicktime 7.?, so the DIVX codec won't work?

FYI - I can play 99% of all my avi files with Quicktime (QT7, Mac OS 10.4.2).

I have the following components installed: AC3 and Xvid Codec (From http://www.insaneness.com/ ) and also the DivX Fusion (beta from the DivX labs).
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.
