No. Wall Street RAM is too slow for today's PowerBooks. (Not to mention that it voids the warranty.)

Pismo RAM is too fast for Wall Street PowerBooks. It will make everything unstable and void the warranty.

No!!

You cannot do that! Pismo and Wallstreet use completely diferent ram standards. Pismo uses PC100 and Wallstreet uses SDRAM.

Excuse me...I know for a fact that you can plug pismo ram into a wallstreet. PC100 RAM is SDRAM. PC100 will slow down to 66MHz, just like 60ns ram will slow down to 70ns---same principle. PC100 ram is backwards compatible for the wallstreet. The main difference between them is 66MHz ram won't speed up to 100MHz.
Call up TechWorks.com--they are an apple developer and work with apple closely.

would it therefore follow that pismo ram will work in a lombard?
seems a better deal as far asI can tell b/c cheaper and then maybe useable in a new computer in the future.

Yeah, that seems to be how SDRAMs work. They just run at the lowest supported speed when multiple modules are detected.

Just to make sure it is clear: PC66, PC100 and PC133 are all SDRAM. PC133 (not yet used on Macs) and PC100 SDRAM are backwards-compatible. "Standard" SDRAM is 66MHz (and is occasionally known as PC66), PC100 and PC133 are just faster versions. Many PC users today buy PC133 RAM for their PC66 or PC100 motherboards so that they will be able to move it to faster machines in the future.

Adam Silver: I don't know where you got the idea the idea that installing the wrong RAM will void the warranty, because that is simply not true. Generally, modules are keyed so as not to plug in to boards they might damage, and even so, incompatible RAM usually just won't work, but causes no damage (like in the past, where you could plug EDO SIMMs into Macs, but it just wouldn't work).

Thanks tooki.

That's what I thought originally when I posted this discussion. Anyway, I don't have to worry about it anymore cause my Pismo arrived today and I'll just put my new PC100 RAM into my new 'Book.
