I think they simply don't have the loyal followers of MacNN. I myself would be upset if MacNN shut down for a week or longer simply to give a redesign. MacNN looks a little... Ummm... Old, but it's consistent and normally works with very little down-time.

I like the function over style approach of MacNN. I also hate the rampant sigs that they have there. If people spent 1/10th as much time THINKING vs. working on "clever" sigs, it would be much better.

It's just the impression that Spymac is for the under-15 set. At Spymac, every forum is the Lounge, if you get my drift.

I dunno, I'm sure a lot of work went into the site redesign and such, but I just don't like spymac. Never have.

I spent a few hours there the other day going through ALL their wallpapers.
But if it came down to MacNN or Spymac.....MacNN would always get my vote

Same here... it's not that it's horrible, but like others have said, you get a younger crew. They also have a few very cool areas, but again, for every one solid post, you get eight or nine crap posts. I would say our ratio is more along the one good to one crap...

My biggest issue is all the large, lame graphics. I have really fast (2Mbit) broadband at home, and their site still takes a while to load. At work, we have OC3 lines, and their site takes a while to load.

All those pointless graphics. All that semi-functional JavaScript. I would like to use their "iDisk-like" space if it's free, but I can't stand that interface.

Yeah, I prefer MacNN because you can bring up things and most often someone will know what to do while at Spymac most people there are in the dark about many computer related issues, however I do like their e-mail and galleries. They get a good vote from me.

I love the new site design and layout. I visit SpyMac everyday to check out the wallpaper section. I don't visit any other section other than that though.

I first heard of Spymac during the iWalk hoax, and after that they have zero credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Also, is it me or are there zero ads on that site? The owner must be independently wealthy.

Supposedly they are going to make money off of paid hosting plans and the auctions.

Who knows if they'll even be able to break even.

I just went to check out the site, and look at what greets me in their new "Shoutbox":

Reality: who wants to come ontop of britneys breasts?
That, my friends, is one of the reasons I don't like Spymac. Add to that the fact that it is a rumor-driven site that published the fake iWalk content...

The services it seems to provide are nice, but I would have dropped the SpyMac name, gotten a new, non-rumor-based domain, and hopefully left all of the immature 12 year olds behind.

SpyMac: Self Important Techno Dicks

I think that about sums up their whole existence.

No, it's just that it's owner is too young to remember the internet bust.

I'm a loyal spymac member. I joined spymac over a year ago after hearing some not so nice things about them on this site. I agree that spymac seems to have a much younger crowd than macnn but there are some really nice people there too. I still come here occasionally but spymac just feels more like a community to me. and being able to talk to other members in real time, via the shoutbox, helps strengthen that sense of community in a way other forums just can't.

I've also run into my share of quite a few mean people there and usually they are eventually banned. But after some time away most of the banned members come back with a changed attitude and realize that what spymac offers in the way of community is really cool and different and so they make an effort to try to get along.

as for the iWalk thing, that was over two years ago, this is not the same spymac, get over it.
