I'm looking for an alternative to preview that will allow me to mirror images as I'm going through them. I love the way preview throws up all the images on the right site and I can use the arrow keys to navigate through them, but I also need to be able to mirror an image if it's backwards (got to love film scanners). Normally I'd do this in PS, but I have around 1,000 images that I need to go through and it just doesn't seem logical to do it in PS.

I also use Bridge, but I don't know of a way to mirror an image with it...

Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how I can do this better, or any applications that might help. I'm poor so anything free would be great.

What about doing it with the Finder and Automator?
Create and automator workflow that will mirror the selected Finder items, select all the files you want to mirror, right click them and choose your Automator workflow?

Ok, I've got an automator script setup to use Preview to mirror the images. The only problem I'm having is I want them to replace the same images, in the same folder that I've selected. How would I go about doing that?

Ahh figured it out. I had a finder workflow in there to copy the files for some reason. Didn't need it. Got it working though.

If you're still looking for an alternative to Preview may I suggest using Xee? It's a very lightweight fast image viewer that probably suits switchers the best since it resembles the Windows preview utility. You can mirror images vertically and horizontally with Xee easily.

Isn't this what Flip Horizontal in Preview's Tools menu does?

Yes, but he explicitly asked for an alternative to it. If you have about 1000 images to flip an Automator action is probably the right way to go.
