I hope someone can help
I have a downloaded video file that was originally played on the Website in QT,via the free Flip4mac QT plugin. I need to be able to play this video on a PC*.
The file that was created, isn't a WMV, just played via the QT player. because if I add .WMV it and open it in WinMedia Player (on the PC) it just chokes. QT on the PC wont touch it ether, as it says that is a missing plugin (and obvously there isn't a PC equivelent of Flip4Mac).
This is a one off, so it's not really worthwile paying for the full Flip4Mac licence, which allows exporting from QT, is there anyother way of ether plaing this file on a PC or extracting the WMV bit out of the hybrid file QT/Flip4Mac has created?

* It's of a wedding a frend of mine was at. As it was streamed WMP on the PC wont let you 'save' the stream, and it was only 'live' for a limited time.

The only way I know is re-encoding in another format (DivX for example)! You will lose a bit of quality but not much!

Can you get it from the website again? This time use the "save as source" option instead of "save as QT Movie". That should get you a standard WMV file.

if not...
Can you play it in VLC? VLC can re-encode it to just about anything you want (but only if it can play it in the first place of course).
You can take the dude out of So Cal, but you can't take the dude outta the dude, dude!

Is there anything like Snapz Pro under Windows?, if so you could capture the whole video and then export it with QT.

Unfortunately, 're-encoding' is one of the 'pay' features in Flip4mac, if you export from the QT player, you get a 'Encoded by Flip4Mac' message burned across the centere of the frame.
Thanks for the Idea of a screen cap of the file playing. I will try and do it on the Mac though, wonder if Snaps Pro have a trial (goes and looks).

I'm not sure if Perian supports WMV, but it works for most codecs so that i can view those files in QT. I use VLC for anything else. VLC should work.

Edit: Wow, I misread that. Try iSquint to encode it into an MP4, which should be viewable on Windows. Or buy VisualHub for other formats. I find it to be worth the cost.
