Apple retail employees to get free iBooks for Mavericks launch

Apple employees will begin receiving free iBooks next week in order to prepare them for the launch of iBooks for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. The development was announced on Sunday in the course of Apple Retail's store quarterly meetings, according to 9to5Mac. The move is aimed at getting employees to familiarize themselves with Apple's iOS-spawned digital books platform and how it will work on the company's desktop and notebook devices. Apple hasn't given a release date for its next computer OS update, but the company has seeded several betas to developers, the latest with the iBooks app included. Retail employees will begin getting paid titles for free next week under the "iBooks Discovery" initiative.
There has been no word on which books in particular will be available or whether the Cupertino company will simply give its employees access in the form of vouchers or redeem codes. Apple has in the past given its employees access to free content in order to prepare them for product and service rollouts. Most recently, Apple launched an Apps Discovery program to further familiarize retail workers with its App Store in order to better demonstrate its potential to visitors.

iBook's product cycle ended in May of 2006. Are they going to revive the product name? Am I missing something?

iBooks app and Store were announced over three years ago and are one of the defining pillars of iPad.

They are talking about iBook application for the Mac OSX Desktop which is long due, not the current iBook apps for iDevices.

As you already know that you can read Kindle books on Mac Desktop, but not iBook which you can only read books on iPad, iPod, and iPhone. Apple is going to change that.

That got progressively more confusing from the headline down.
I, too, think of Apple's old, low-end laptops when I hear the term "iBooks."
