Here's a Register's take
So, yeah. Cool. Hopefully that includes iChat - I see no reason why not. About time too - although no timescales have been mentioned.
I wonder if the proteus developer got wind of this and therefore decided to jump ship to work on iChat ?

It uses M# software to act as a bridge between the three so they are not actually sharing the same protocol.

Bottom line is Tiger iChat must have full feature-parity with it's Windows counterpart.
Case in point, I have AIM forwarding enabled so when I'm away messages are forwarded to the mobile. On Windows AIM, it clearly shows that I'm online, but with a mobile phone icon beside it, which obviously indicates that I'm on, but on the mobile--so my capabilities would then be limited.
iChat users will only see that I'm active. So at times, people will send me text clippings, urls, regular IMs etc.... which then gets sent to the mobile. So you see what I mean.
Full profile support would also be nice as well. And yes, I've sent feedback to Apple for feature requests.
As for the article, yeah it's just more middleware for MS to sell. And where's the Lotus Sametime and Jabber compatbility?
