Hi,

I'm wanting to upgrade to the new version of PoPfile.

To do this I need to install the Berkeley DB from <http://www.sleepycat.com>

I'm following the instructions at <http://www.sleepycat.com/xmldocs/ref...nix/intro.html>

When I do:

cd dbxml-1.1/lib/db-4.1.25/build_unix
../dist/configure --enable-cxx
make
make install

I get:

[simonmartins-computer:~/Desktop/db-4.1.25/build_unix] simon% make install
mkdir: /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.1: No such file or directory
make: *** [install_setup] Error 1
[simonmartins-computer:~/Desktop/db-4.1.25/build_unix] simon%

Can someone help me past this?

Thanks!

Now keep in mind, I'm not on a Mac right now, but if I remember, OS X doesn't have a /usr/local/ by default. Just do a cd /usr; mkdir local
and maybe it'll work?

6116,

Thanks for the quick reply...

When I do: cd /usr; mkdir local I get told that 'File exists'.

Perhaps I need to do: cd /usr; mkdir local/BerkeleyDB.4.1 ?

But isn't that what 'make install' is trying to do anyway?

There's also this: <http://www.opendarwin.org/projects/d...bstr=databases>
(go to the second link down)

But I have no idea how it works...

No no no. You don't need to create the directory manually. You DO need to be su to make install

ie

% sudo make install
