Miss the Mac OS 9 boot panel logo when you boot into Mac OS X? Well I've created a Mac OS X boot panel for those of you who do. (Which include myself ) Enjoy!

You can download it here.

HOW TO INSTALL:

Make sure file is completely decompressed.

Login as root with root password. Place BootPanel.pdf in /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemStarter/QuartzDisplay.bundle/Resources/ and click replace. Reboot and see!

-OR-

Make sure file is completely decompressed.

Boot into Mac OS 9.1 (or any Classic Mac OS). Place BootPanel.pdf in /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemStarter/QuartzDisplay.bundle/Resources/ and click replace. Reboot in Mac OS X and see!

NOTE: It may be a good idea to save your old boot panel just incase. I saved mine as OldBootPanel.pdf and also put that in the same folder as the new boot panel. Again, enjoy!

Very nice job Norm. I was sort of wondering why Apple left that important "feature" out of the boot process. Again, thank you.

Great job!

Not to sound ungrateful, but is there any way you could make it look even more like OS 9's startup screen? Y'know...the little window with the big border and all...I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to do myself -- just grab the pict out of the System suitcase and doctor it up with the new logo. Okay; end of rant.

Thanks again!

This is the type of thing I like to see, people working towards the acceptance of OS X. Nothing negative - just good positive developments. Thats good. If Mac OS X is the future of the Mac (and it sure is) it needs all the support it can get...from boot panel to killer apps.

OS X is great. And things like Norm's creation make it even better.

Great work Norm.

Play it cool
